From the President
Regents Award for Superior Staff
Danny Bolton
His reputation on campus is always POSITIVE and his attitude is contagious.
The Regents' Award for Superior Staff recognizes a staff member who consistently demonstrates superior job performance, and whose outstanding service reflects perspective, initiative and efforts that transcend the boundaries of their designated work responsibilities. This is the highest award given to an employee at OU-Tulsa and comes with a $5,000 cash prize and a plaque.
This year’s recipient, Danny Bolton, has been with OU-Tulsa for almost 20 years and has an array of talents that are essential to the successful operations of our campus. He is a diligent employee who is constantly trying to find a better way to do his job. His nomination letters always mentioned professionalism, efficiency, and consistency – which makes him a rare and valuable employee on our campus. Congratulations, Danny!
From the Staff Senate Chair
Wow, y’all. It feels like it’s been years since we’ve seen each other! Whether we personally know each other or not, I miss seeing all of you on campus! I’d like to start by saying that I hope everyone is doing well as we continue to remain physically distanced, masked, and at home as much as possible.
I am hosting a biweekly campus-wide check-in via Zoom that is open to anyone and everyone who wants to join. There is no agenda for this meeting—it’s an opportunity to see some new and different faces on our screens and connect (though participation is not required, lurkers are welcome!). Check your email for more information!
Please be sure to take care of yourselves and your families. Take some time to go outside and enjoy the sunshine, read a book, or do something that doesn’t involve a screen and Wi-Fi. While some of our more introverted friends may be adjusting fairly well to the stay-at-home recommendations, this is a difficult time for a lot of people. I encourage you to email Staff Senate at TulsaStaffSenate@ouhsc.edu to connect, get help, or recognize an outstanding team member while we continue to adapt to life in the age of COVID-19.
Though the global COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from being able to celebrate our annual staff and faculty awards together, Staff Senate and executive campus leadership agreed that it was important to recognize and celebrate outstanding members of our amazing OU-Tulsa team. So, without further ado, I’m honored to announce the winners of the OU-Tulsa Staff Merit awards for the 2019-2020 academic year (in alphabetical order):
Vickie Minton, RN Clinic Administrator, Internal Medicine
Steve Skaggs, Carpenter/Cabinetmaker, Operations
Angela Surratt, Admissions, Recruitment, and Special Programs Coordinator, School of Community Medicine
Thank you to all who took the time to nominate your colleagues. It’s so important to recognize those special people who make each day in our campus community better. We will have another opportunity to celebrate outstanding staff members at OU-Tulsa next March. If someone stands out to you over the next several months, jot their name down on a sticky note for nomination next year!
Stay well, everyone!
