The concept of playing to win was questioned by many sports fans after the Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Doug Pederson appeared to intentionally lose the game against the Washington Football Team. Although it was to benefit the Eagles with a better draft pick, football fans are furious and claim Pederson sacrificed the integrity of the NFL.
"I think what the Eagles did by pulling Jalen Hurts was classless but at the end of the day, I don't think that the Giants deserved to make the playoffs." -Sophomore, Zach Atlas
"I am angry about the whole situation because I know the Eagles and the Giants are rivals, but the Giants pulled through for their season even though it started off rough and they ended with a 6-10 record. The Giants haven't been in the playoffs for a while so it would have been nice to see." -Junior, Nicole Connington
"What the Eagles did is strategic, but it definitely ruins the integrity of the game and should not be done." -Junior, Jack Flusser
"Yes, I do believe they intentionally lost. I think it was for the better draft pick. I do not like the fact that Pederson got fired because he was the first coach that brought them their first Superbowl." -Senior, Jack Ruane
"Ever since I was little all my coaches were very focused on teaching young athletes to always be determined to win, so I could never imagine a coach purposely losing." - Senior, Samantha Balzano
"I felt that it was unfair to the sport to have a team purposely lose a game that messed up another teams playoff chances. The Eagles could have and should have competed and tried to win another game for their record." -Junior, Rocco Garcia
