February Homefront A Day of Baking

I find myself longing for a little bite of something. Nothing too sweet but just a little something around 2:30 as a little treat during these February days. My Hygge & Fika books sit on the coffee table encouraging me to take a little time to enjoy the quiet afternoon. I find myself scheduling a baking day to make Sables and Hazelnut shortbread cookies. Some of my favorites that are not overly sweet. This time I add almond extract to the Sables instead of vanilla and Amaretto to the Hazelnut cookies. Seems more decadent than using vanilla and the taste changes just slightly. I place them on my cake stands, along with the flowers from my husband. They satisfy my afternoon craving. The Sables quickly disappear when the kids come home from school. Even teenagers like to be greeted by cookies. They last for a few days and secret away just enough to have one a day for a week. Next week, I will just need to schedule another day to bake again.
