Today we went on the ferry from Rota to Cadiz. It takes about half an hour and is well worth a visit. I don’t usually like cathedrals. It’s not that they aren’t beautiful, for the most part they are, it’s just that I can always think of better things to spend lots of money on. I still can, but if you are going to make an exception then I think the cathedral in Cadiz is worth a visit.
The numerous chapels are intriguing. Lots of saints I’d never heard of, beautiful stone and wood carvings, and a crypt built below sea level. Why would anyone think of building under the sea? I also learned a lot as there is an English translation handset which is refreshingly clear and easy to use.
After all that sightseeing, Steve needed a beer so we sat in the main square and watched the people go by. Mostly Spanish, with a few British and German speaking tourists mixing in. I couldn’t help thinking how wonderful it would be if we could continue to be part of the EU…
