Yesterday, Edith Pretty discovered that she had lots of ancient jewellery, gold and money hidden beneath the ground on her land. She even found an Anglo-Saxon boat under the largest of the eleven mounds in her field.

When Edith Pretty discovered the find she said "I can not believe that all this time, under one of my mounds was all this treasure".

Edith Pretty was already a rich lady and as a result she decided to give it all to the British Museum in London rather than sell it off to collectors as this would have meant the collection had to be broken up.

Winston Churchill wanted to give Edith Pretty the CBE for her kind donation but Edith said that she did not deserve one. Here are some of the finds:
