Research Project Turned Immersive VR Experience, Highlights the Stories of Toronto Youth
Immersed in Youths’ Stories of Toronto: The Power of VR Storytelling was an event that occurred on November 26 that walked through a 2.5 year research project which turned into an immersive VR experience with installations at events such as Nuit Blanche and Regent Park Film Festival in 2019.

PR Students Carry Out Virtual Events
Students in our Public Relations – Corporate Communications program successfully held a series of virtual events in November.
- A Taste of Turkish Cuisine - Attendees baked a delicious Turkish pide with Chef Matthew Duffy. Donations went to Daily Bread Food Bank.
- Moving for Mindfulness - The event included a virtual stretch, meditation session, and mini-concert. Donations went to Stella's Place.
- Seize the Freeze - Students and a panel of community leaders discussed the many safe, fun, and affordable options for outdoor activities to 'Seize the Freeze' this winter.
- Trivia Night - Attendees took part in a virtual trivia night where they tested their knowledge in music, arts, and culture.
- Lucky Seven PR Speed Networking - Attendees got the chance to speak with seven outstanding PR professionals for seven minutes with seven other students to learn more about the different industries within PR.

Micro-Credentials Arriving Soon to the Story Arts Centre
Micro-credentials are qualifications that take up a smaller amount of time to complete when compared to a full-time program, and provide learners the opportunity to gain specific knowledge and skills that are needed within a given field. Aiming to have them available by Winter 2021, the five that are included are:
- Game Prototyping
- Digital Graphics-Intermediate
- Data Fluency for Communicators
- Smartphone Video Production
- Practical Communications Skills.

Journalism Professor Ellin Bessner Refuses to Let Crucial Stories Subside
On November 9, Centennial took part in Holocaust Education Week, organized by Journalism Instructor Ellin Bessner.
Ellin has taken great strides in this area, including the feat she recently took on to ensure the gravestone of Morley Ornstein, a Jewish airman from Canada who enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) during WWII, properly reflected who he was. Remembrance Day 2020 Virtual Ceremony
On November 11, Centennial held a virtual Remembrance Day ceremony. With a message from President Craig Stephenson, Centennial Journalism student emcees Sabra Ismath, Jack Adams and Abdulhamid Ibrahim, introduced attendees to some of the heroes and heroines in Canada’s military history, including:
- Three women officers who became Canada’s first female fighter pilots in the 1980s.
- An Indigenous Olympic champion runner who later carried messages in the trenches in the First World War.
- A Toronto bird watcher who joined up to fly bombers and sink enemy ships during the Second World War.
