My Photoshoot Day, A professional Shoot with a professional camera.

My Presentation Blog Post

I feel my portfolio has gone from strength to strength, especially with all the setbacks we had had during coronavirus, which affected our day to day lives. My portfolio layout started rough, due to the lack of information being given on how a portfolio layout should be. A portfolio should be clean around the edges and I am cognizant that simplicity attracts the viewer’s attention.

I slowly started to master these skills by myself. I started to educate myself on all the different software that can be used to edit your images and to put these in to a virtual portfolio which can then be presented in a professional manner.

I feel there are many strengths to my portfolio - it’s full of life, it screams personality, and it gives you all the information you need to understand what the images are communicating.

I would classify anxiety as my biggest fear as this would be the only thing that would come between me and my presentation. I feel I am trying to overcome this fear to better present myself and demonstrate what I have to offer.

I do feel my peers had some constructive feedback which was helpful to better support me for my presentation, my response to this was taken in a very light hearted way.

The strategies to consider in future presentations would be to show more passion in the subject at hand. I feel adding humour can lighten the mood. You can also use your own personal stories to create a brighter atmosphere, this can allow the person to understand you better. I also feel asking questions shows how strong you really are, as you’re not afraid to explore things you may not be particularly familiar with.

I feel it’s important to allow yourself to have enough time to feel prepared - you have to be one step ahead. I feel the presentation was good practice to gain more confidence for the steps ahead.

Memories

Food Memories

We all have food memories which we can all relate to, some great and some that may not be so desirable. Food memories can be very expressive in respect of taste, smell and texture. Food evokes fond memories of a place and a setting. Food sparks a profound memory of excitement which leads to feelings and emotion.

The sensation of taste is definitely something which is tied to a memory; taste and smell both have an impact on how we perceive memories.

I have a passion for trying foods from different cultures, I am food focused, when I look back at memories and reflect on past events from my childhood up until now I can say that many of those memories include food.

I remember preparing food with my parents for family events, having barbecues at my grandmother’s house in north London, and sharing meals with good friends and family.

When I describe travel and food, I recall memories of travelling, imagining beautiful landscapes that take your breath away; beautiful cities that fill your lungs with pure air. Curious villagers that surround you with peace and humanity.. Dinners that make you feel like your exploring the world.. A memory which you long to relive, again and again. Pastries that are unforgettable - rich and fluffy from the inside, buttery and decadent desserts which melt in your mouth and can never be forgotten, these pastries are among the simplest yet the best.

I have come to the conclusion that it’s not food that holds the memory but the experience. The experience of enjoying the food whilst also experiencing the beautiful things that surround us.

Remembering and celebrating our fond memories of life. I now feel encouraged to spend more time with my family and friends and take pride in making new memories. Indulging in food can take a few minutes - however the memory we take with us can be of a lifetime.

Love is the food of life, and travel is dessert. x

Review & Reflect blog

I feel my project started with an interest to explore autism, this was an emotional topic as my son was recently diagnosed with ASD. I wanted to explore the memories I held with my son from when he was a baby. The sensory part of my research was interesting as this played a big part in understanding how our senses can control many aspects of our day to day lives. I came up with an idea of creating a sensory book. Shortly after analysing my brief I decided to divert my idea to another subject which would better match the project and the criteria which was asked of me.

I decided to explore the memories of food, something that resonates with me. There is so much to explore all the way from the gatherings many of us have had with family and friends, scrumptious meals we can never forget the taste of.

I still remember the food and the atmosphere at my grandmother’s house from when I was a child, her meals were scrumptious, with a few basic ingredients. It was unique and full of flavour. A memory which can never be forgotten.

I feel my project was successful. As food holds many memories close to my heart, I love exploring different aspects of food and culture. I explored food from all areas, mentally mapping these into the designs and deliverables presented.

Had there been more time to explore food I would have enjoyed researching this area further. As a parent, having to balance time with this short project was challenging at times, however I believe these were eventually largely overcome.

Having to use different software applications in producing material has definitely assisted my IT and design skills.

I will continue to highlight food in my fashion creations – I feel it is a treasure trove of colors and shades acting as a palette.

Launch Project

Review and Reflect

I feel my launch project was successful as I researched and found inspiration online about different designs of tote bags which would relate to the launch project about domestic violence, I created a bag which would be suited to all genders as domestic violence knows no bounds.

I enjoyed working with materials and textures and the experimentation helped with producing highly creative material.

I felt my design process proved successful however I found working with members of my group difficult as I felt there was not enough communication, this was a significant challenge. The expectations of some members of the team was misaligned at times, causing resentment among those of us contributing to the group tasks and projects.

In future, close collaboration through better and more involved communication can help to progress the work efficiently. Time-management is another area where I think that as a team there could have been meaningful improvements – in some cases it does feel like not all individuals are following to the same deadlines and deliverables.

At the same time, it was enjoyable to hear the many different ideas, viewpoints and creative solutions – some of which is included in the work submitted and the rest of it discussed at length and ultimately not included in the final product.

I’ve learnt how to work as part of a group, with common goals, and delivering work as a team. I’ve also improved my ability to listen to and consider other views which I may have dismissed in the past.

In future assignments, I would endeavour to transfer the skills I have gained in completing this task – namely, strong teamwork, the ability to think critically and conjuring novel solutions.

Exhibition

Exhibition Blog Post

The last four images are a mixture of successful pictures from my group 4- this is research on domestic violence and how we all came to the final designs/outcome. I feel the designs sends a very precise and clear message to the public, As a group we were successful in marketing our ideas very clearly. I really love how every group member has used their own creativity when sketching these images as it shows a lot of emotion attached to the subject. The concept was to bring awareness to the public and how to seek help.

My main aim for this project was to leave a long lasting and memorable message to the audience in the exhibition. On my exhibition you will clearly see a time/’location/ and Event Name. This is helpful as I am prompting the event to as many individuals as possible.

My main objective and goal in this exhibition was to raise awareness and to promote the charity.

I feel in future it’s important to create as much content as you can, to avoid shortage of work for display. It’s also important for me to create more sketches for future exhibitions as this will help me with ideas in moving forward.

I feel it’s important to gain as much knowledge as you can about the message you are communicating and being able to distinguish the difference between communicating and then being able to promote this to the public. Example making sure your audience is happy and that your values match the brand you are projecting.

Art Movements

In writing this essay I have considered historical artistic movements (Futurism) as well as more modern interpretations of art (Performance Art)

Performance Art is considered by the artist Ekin Bernay as ‘…an outlet of one’s thoughts, feelings and desires…’

I have also explored the ramifications of such movements – who, in turn, they affect, inspire, portray, unite and divide.

The strong bonds between poverty and art, politics and geography and pop culture and technology intertwine to provide the perfect storm for art to ‘breed’ and multiply, and with each iteration of multiplication, to subtly change direction very slightly, having the cumulative impact of changing the direction of any movement completely.

Today’s art nouveau will be considered and critically analyzed in the same way as today’s pre- and post-war works are – with an appreciation for the life and times of the artist, their surroundings and influences.

With colossal natural and human changes happening around the world, from wars and famine to natural disease and poverty, the backdrop of any movement – or indeed, any artistic portrayal, changes very quickly. Something considered tasteful and representative may find itself at odds with its audience and critics in a short time span – just as Futurism gave way to Performing Arts in a very short few years, today’s ‘futurism’ will be tomorrow’s ‘history’.

Experimentation

Blog Post- Reflect

My project has been really exciting so far, I am learning to organise my workload and time effectively. I feel experimenting with different materials and using different forms of art detailed in my sketchbook have given me great satisfaction and this has emotionally helped to build my confidence and to explore the topic further.

Researching different content that relates to my FMP has given me inspiration in respect of selecting the avenues to explore – of the various avenues, singling out those with which I resonate have kept me occupied and somewhat entertained. Experimentation has been a challenge, as I feel an audience looking at my work may find my ideas to be peculiar and unorthodox. Genuine, constructive feedback and critique has helped me to understand the implications of stepping out of my comfort zone and towards a trajectory of brave, unashamed and bold work which dares to be different.

Week 1

I started by researching on my FMP concept which relates to cartoon food illustration. This is an interesting topic, as we are very much surrounded by food in our daily lives. It’s interesting to see how this fits in to cartoons and fashion today. I feel it’s a unique idea which needed to be explored further, which is why I gave myself the challenge to explore cartoon foods and to go in to more depth on how this fits in to the world of fashion. I would like to create a colorful Scenery which inspires every individual to take a step in to a tasty world of eye candy- the pairing of cartoon food illustration and fashion come together to create a psychedelic autonomous sensory meridian response- the tingle from the back of the head running down the spine. I feel every step is sweet and it should make you feel so good that you are able to taste it.

Week 2

I created rough sketches in my sketch book, to visualise how I can incorporate these ideas in to the world of fashion. Example (Shoes) this became increasingly difficult at times as this topic is not explored as much in art. Researching artists such as Andy Warhol gave me some clarity on the idea and how I can better experiment with different materials. Researching Andy Worhols work definitely started to have an impact on were the project was heading. It gave me a sense of positivity to understand that this project is all about having fun and to enjoy and to understand that we can all make mistakes. Overcoming fears and allowing myself to take the risk in to the world of food fashion is something very exciting for me.

Week 3

I came across an artist called Clive Campell. His work is so interesting and tasty to see not to forget not edible. These are custom made shoes, which can suit any individual at any time. The artist/company creates “pastry themed work of art for your feet”. The beautiful creations go well with night outs and can also be worn casually. This relates closely to the research in my sketchbook which gives any individual and experience a bespoke services in shoe fashion. I really wanted to explore this topic so I decided to sketch my ideas in to my sketchbook. I explored and sketched ice-cream, doughnut and cupcakes. I used books to explore how, to create the perfect cartoon cupcake and then being able to place that design in to a shoe. Every designer has an idea however only you are able to create your own design using your own creativity.

Week 4

I looked at many different exhibitions and artwork, which can relate to my FMP. The first one that I looked in to was “Let’s Eat” curated by Luke Chueh and Sarah Jo Marks. The artwork contains a bowl which is represented as a human head. Contain different types of food. This gives me the indication that the artist is sending out a clear message. “You are what you eat”. It’s a beautiful painting full of personality, fun to look at. I also looked at Tate Moden and all the artists that explored food as a topic. I came across many images. I would like to talk about one particular image which caught my eye and related to my FMP quite well. Claes Oldenburg-Pizza Pie 1964-Tate. A very interesting piece of art, the artist has explored the use of a bubbly surface with a few wobbly marks. This gave me inspiration in to exploring puffy paint.

Week 5

I decided to experiment with puffy paint. The ingredients used was shaving cream, white glue and food colouring. I found the method online and decided to follow this through as I wanted to create the illusion of a “Puffy Cupcake”. I mixed three bowls of the puffy paint adding different colours of food colouring to change the colour on the cupcake. My kids joined in and shortly it became a puffy paint party. A sense of humour had to be carried on in this project as it was quite intense. Laughing at the small things made a big difference.

I then decided to take a trip to the pound shop to purchase materials for my collage. I came across some card and some gold sequence and paint. A good artist can make something out of nothing which was exactly my intention. I created this glam collage and I also added confetti as this is easy to use and lovely to see. Fiddly at times overall a success in the making.

Week 6

I tried to give myself some time to relax this week as I felt overtired with my everyday life. Suffering from anxiety can be a dark place, a place were no human wants to be. A day were you really just want to get away from all the pressures of life. I thought of ideas in my head, trying to imagine what more I could do to make my work stand out? Then I come back to the fear of not having done enough for this project.

Feeling nervous about how to go and take action, everything came to a hold as concentration can come and go. I started to explore new ways of gaining my confidence back. Allowing myself to enjoy other ways of moving away from my comfort zone. I also tried to look more towards a positive outcome and to walk away from things that no longer held a purpose in my life. I started to open up about my feelings and didn’t to allow perfectionism to stand in the way. I re assured myself every day with positive thoughts and allowed my mind set to evolve further. Eventually I stated to trust my gut instinct and moved forward with my head held high which allowed me to move towards my goal and gave me self-esteem in the process.

Week 7

I then started to experiment with menus, the layout and colour.

I then imagined an idea – creating a menu, as someone would be offered in a restaurant, relating to the designs. This unique take on an established object felt new and ground breaking.

The ‘Starters’ would consist of upper-body clothing, the ‘Mains’ the lower-half and for Dessert, shoes,. I became fascinated by the concept. I decided to sketch rough designs in my sketchbook, and then explored further in to an app. This helped me with the colour, contrast and layout. I created a few designs and I wanted to see which design would be most suited to the fashion boutique.

I used my tactile sketchbook to help me with arranging the little bits of my sketches together.

I started to explore shoes and how I could best create a 3D design for my exhibition. I didn’t have as much time as I would have hoped for as I am a mummy of two, so super mummy pulled out some old magical shoes (Cinderella style) to recreate a cupcake shoe design. I used paper mache to cover the original colour and the design on the shoe , once the newspaper was dry I was able to use white wood paint, again I used this as my little cute munchkin used up my white paint., this became a disaster as I shortly realised what it was for, Satin( wood paint). Much to my surprise this was a blessing in disguise as it gave a crinkly effect to the shoe, I then tried to use my paint pallet however this did not absorb so well on the shoe, the next option would be my children’s pot paints and to use thin brushes in order to get the design just right. It did take a day for the paint to dry. Overall it was a good experience to test and learn from different materials. I realised not everything works all the time, if you want to be spontaneous just look around your house. Not to forget the magic sprinkles from Morrison’s. It definitely added a creative touch.

Week 8

So I moved on to create a CHERRY for my shoe. Unfortunately it is not cherry season, so I purchased a box of grapes from the supermarket. I painted the grape white and then tried to use my pallet again but the paint was too thin. I had some thick red paint so I put this into a bowl and dipped my white painted grape in to it. I then tried to use a hairdryer to quick dry the paint but as it was too thick, it didn’t really work.

I left the grape over night to dry and the next day I used PVA glue to stick this last piece on to the shoe. I realised after the experiment how I could have just used some plasticine or playdough. This was quite amusing but a lovely experience as a whole. The challenging part was making sure the colour stayed on the grape. Overall it was a success.

Week 9

I am bursting with joy as I feel I am nearly there. Finally I can breathe. The FMP project has taught me how patient I really am. I used my creativity to the fullest, teamwork was exchanged with feedback from my peers. I have had to adapt myself to difficult situations, and I am overcoming my anxiety as time has passed and trying to regain back my confidence which I feel was take away from me in some ways. I have shown leadership skill in regards to working online and taking charge for myself. It’s all a working progress. Planning my time correctly so that I’m always able to work under pressure responsibly. I can always say I did seek inspiration online from great designers and being able to make my designs my own took courage. I was able to think out of the box and to understand and respect everyone’s ides as I know only a good designer can think for themselves and recreate something out of nothing.

Project Outcome- Justifying my selection through annotation From my experimentation, I needed to select a single item to showcase as part of my final production.

While I enjoyed designing and developing all my ideas in the previous pages, I settled on taking forward my idea of a cupcake shoe.

Liberally using vivid colours and textures in combinations that are eye-catching led to me my two finalist pieces.

One of these has the cherry on the shoe – a take on the familiar cherry on the icing proverb.

The other, consisting of sprinkles and hundreds and thousands, is a familiar take on a dessert that would be eaten on a warm summer’s day, evoking pleasant and bright memories.

These two designs gave my idea the surefootedness it needed.

Evaluation

I felt the outcome was a success with a few challenges along the way. I started by using my sketchbook to record ideas and to understand the importance of using and recording information in my sketchbook. The sketchbook assisted in exploring and expanding on ideas. I explored many designs in relation to my FMP concept to meet my outcome.

Through trial and error I have reached a point where I wish to continue experimenting but with a clearer focus on direction and velocity.

I felt excited by the idea of personally handpicking and being able to represent my own theme. I felt a sense of independence as I planned my time efficiently to give myself enough space to make use of developing my ideas and accelerating through with great force.

This was a process of learning and understanding how we process and develop ideas further with ongoing research which leads to clear communication of the story being told to your audience.

I greatly appreciated my research as this gave me great clarity in responding to my FMP further. I used annotation to give my own opinions on research relating to my project.

The experiments were very entertaining and fun, moving forward I decided to explore various diverse materials which are not used often. This was a challenge which I overcame as the materials used were adaptable, I remained capable in moulding the outcome to where I wanted it to be.

I can now say I am able to whip up one of the best puffy paints in the world and I have definitely become a star with wrapping my own shoe in paper mach’e and painting my very own scrumptious cupcake, not to forget with a cherry on the top. I have become far more confident. Being able to walk away from my anxiety and being able to move forward is an achievement.

Working alongside my peers helped to give me feedback online on how I was able to develop certain ideas, this helped me to work as a team and to understand the importance of working together as a family.

The project was a success and a learning experience on how I can better myself in the future. The challenges faced were related to my anxiety. The fear of not being able to move forward had a huge impact on my project. I can now celebrate my FMP and walk away knowing I tried my best. I would like to thank you for introducing me to this project.

Sketchbook Reflection Blog

I feel my sketchbook is like a magical book, a compendium of ideas and explorations deep into the furthest reaches of my imagination. The colors and shapes impart thousands of tastes and smells – from utilitarian steel and leather to the sweet sensations of fruits. This helped me expand my horizons – the silhouette of the mountains in the far distance were now beneath me, a glorious elevation. I grew from strength to strength in realizing my potential – harnessing my research to connect ideas to my concept. My sketchbook has transcended the mere fabric of which it is composed, it is now an expression of my identity – an outpouring of what makes me who I am.
