CELEBRATE WONDER FALL SUNDAY SCHOOL - FUMC DENTON KIDS

Week 12 - Jacob's Ladder

Stone Story

Supplies: Stones or rocks & permanent markers

Go outside and find a medium or large sized rock or stone.

After you have collected your rocks, work together to paint or decorate your rocks by draw something that represents a different part of the story.

After you are finished, use the stones or rocks to tell the Bible story in your own words

Breath Prayer

The simple act of breathing in and out deeply can become a prayer. Combined with simple phrases, a breath prayer can be instrumental in calming anxiety, in reminding us who we are, or in voicing our trust in God.

• In the Bible story today, God reminds Jacob that God is with him and will bless his whole family

• Recite the Bible verse phrase by phrase, “I am with you now, I will protect you everywhere you go” (Genesis 28:15).

Use these words to do a breath prayer. Take a deep breath in and say to yourself, “God is with me.” When you exhale, say to yourself, “everywhere I go.”

• Do this together several times.

Thank you Fara for sourcing our Sunday School activities. Hope everyone has a great week! :)

Art Activity: Using the star stickers, recreate the constellations you found.

Wash your family’s feet like Abraham did for his visitors. You will need a bowl, water, towel & soap

Activity - Make Me Laugh - Form pairs. Choose one partner in each pair to be the Laugher, who will try to make the other partner laugh. Explain that the Laugher can make silly faces, tell jokes, or just laugh and try to make the other person laugh. Have partners switch roles after a minute or two. Explain that when we trust God no matter what, he gives us great joy.

Use the fingerprint page from your Sunday School bag or print the page here and write the ways you are unique in the fingerprint

Similar to the fingerprint activity above, use the puzzle pieces from the puzzle in your bag or use the printable below to write how you are unique or write the things you love about yourself.

Jacob and Esau Charades

Jacob and Esau had very different personalities and liked different activities.

Act out the actions of Jacob and Esau. As family members act out, guess whether they are Jacob or Esau.

Jacob and Esau Arms

Jacob and Esau had very different physical characteristics. Jacob had smooth skin while Esau had hairy red arms.

The Smell Trick

Jacob dressed up like Esau and last week we made arms to show the difference between the two brothers. Esau also smelled like he had been outside sweating and hunting. Isaac was tricked by Jacob because Jacob dressed like Esau and smelled like Esau. Can your nose be tricked by smells? Using foods with distinct smells, see if your nose can detect the correct food or can your nose be tricked?

Cut the foods. Take turns closing eyes, smelling the foods and guessing which food is which. After the smell trick, use the fruits to make a fruit snack to share.

Blessing Cards

After Jacob sold the blessing from Esau, he had to run away. Everyone in the family is very upset with the whole situation. Our world can be chaotic at times and we can feel out of control. We can act in haste and regret our actions. As the video said, our words can help or hurt. Let’s make cards with helpful words.

Put all family members’ names in a hat. Each family member draws a name. Create a blessing card for the chosen family member. Share the blessing card while enjoying the fruit snacks.
