My name is Edward Hamling, I am a recent 1st class honours graduate of Massey University Wellington, majoring in Spatial Design.

I am confident with many design, editing and CAD softwares, ranging from Premier Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and photoshop, to other architectural software such as Vector Works and Sketchup Pro.

The Wanderer's Garden

Spatial Design Honours Project

The Wanderer’s Garden explores the relationship between music therapy and green therapy, proposing a purpose-built facility for restorative practices. Receptive and active techniques derived from music therapy and green therapy inform the design of a series of interactive spatial instruments scattered throughout a walled garden of native vegetation. Sited in the abandoned Tip Top Bread Factory in Newtown, walking distance from the CBD, Matairangi and existing healthcare, The Wanderer’s Garden provides a safe haven for healing, hidden from the chaos of everyday life.

NZ Fringe Festival

Editing by Edward Hamling. Part of the marketing campaign for NZ Fringe festival. Other videos by myself can be found on their Instagram (@nzfringe) or on their website (fringe.co.nz/).

CubaDupa 2021

One of the video advertisement I created for CubaDupa 2021. These videos were used all over social media and screened in the Lighthouse Cinema and Embassy Theatre.

The Reveal Lamp

Furniture Design - 200 level

This project involved making a lamp with a 'surprise element'. We designed a bedside lamp which opens up and turned on by gently pushing the top of the lamp.

Centric Loading Screen

Loading screen made for a software used in hospitals.

Instagram Filters

CubaDupa & Fringe Festival Instagram Filters

These two filters (and GIFS) were made for the marketing campaigns for Cubadupa and Fringe Festival. They are published on Instagram, and can be found on the festival's Instagram pages; @cubadupa and @NZFringe

Spatial Type Project

This was a project looking to promote positive wellbeing and to create a sense of community during hard times of isolation. I designed four Instagram filters, all that interact with the environment around them or with the person using the filter.

Strasbourg 1915 Title Sequence

A short motion graphic I made for the start of the Strasbourg 1915 trailer.

Tanē's Whare was project for Pūhoro STEM Academy, designing a portable classroom within a shipping container. Through the use of an interactive puzzle, our classroom teaches students about our ecology in Aotearoa.

Storyboard of the puzzle, students must return the puzzle pieces from the centre screen, to the correct place around the walls. Once all the pieces are in place, a holographic tree will grow.

The RealiTree

Creative Industries - 200 level

This project was looking at how decisions about your waste is affecting the environment. We Built a 3 metre tall that grows healthier or dies depending on peoples rubbish decisions. The Tree then turned into a collaborative art project, allowing people to do whatever they wanted to the tree.

Whetū Taura

Spatial Design - 200 level

This project was based around the adaptive reuse of the Great Hall in the Dominion Museum building. My designed involved a multi level art galley and function hall, with a retracting stage, cafe and kids zone.
