The Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program offers a range of complimentary support services to Sunshine Coast families affected by breast cancer. The program was founded in 2007 in memory of Sunshine Coast mum Cindy Mackenzie who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer aged 39. Since September 2015, The Sunshine Coast Private Hospital has proudly administered the program. We are committed to continuing to provide support to local people with breast cancer as they undergo treatment and recovery. The program is available to Sunshine Coast residents diagnosed with breast cancer.
This years Pinktober fundraising event was hosted by Channel 7's Rosanne Natoli and held at the Mooloolaba Surf Club who delivered a delicious lunch, amazing views and even rolled out the pink carpet.
Guest Speaker ... Donna Penny
Donna Penny is a Sunshine Coast mother of two living on borrowed time. Diagnosed with breast cancer at just 35 years of age she underwent a double mastectomy and was given the all clear until the cancer returned five years later and she was given the devastating news that it had spread to other parts of her body. It was a privilege to have Donna speak for us today and there was laughs and tears as we gained a whole lot of new perspective by listening to her share her story.
"Real strength is not just a condition of one's muscle, but a tenderness in one's spirit." McCallister Dodds
"Drink the champagne. Eat the cake. Buy the shoes and take that holiday." Donna Penny

"Why My Mummy?" by Donna Penny
Given just two years to live, Donna is what she calls past her ‘expiry date’ and is living every day to the fullest. Aside from the challenge of battling cancer, Donna was inspired to write the book, “Why my Mummy?” to help her young son understand and to reach out to those who have also been touched by cancer. By doing this Donna aims to leave a legacy behind for her family and the world to remember her by.
