SCHOOL REPORTS AND THREE-WAY CONFERENCES School reports will be available on Compass as of Friday, June 25. A reminder that School Council approved Thursday, July 15 as a pupil free day for the purposes of conducting three-way conferences.

BUILDING WORKS School Council met on Tuesday night to approve an Asset Management Plan which articulates the educational opportunities afforded by our almost $7 million funding allocation as well as the ‘preferred’ reality once the buildings are completed. This Asset Management Plan now goes to the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) for approval. The next phase for the school is to work with the VSBA to select an architect for the project. The architectural firm will then consult widely with our school community and all groups for at least six months to determine the best outcome and design for our school before the project then goes out to tender.

The time frame for the project is longer than that for the permanent modular build (the Grade 5 and 6 classrooms) with the new works expected to be completed in term 2, 2023.

END NOTES We’ve made it – well, almost. Despite two circuit breaking lockdowns, we’ve managed to make the half-way mark of the school year in pretty good shape. We’ve managed a relatively uninterrupted educational program with lots of numeracy, literacy and inquiry, two school camps, one working bee, athletics, cross country and swimming events, a number of excursions, a Mothers’ Day stall and more. Fingers crossed that the vaccination program gets ramped up, and we avoid lockdowns into the future.

I trust that everyone has a great break whatever that looks like – interstate or locally. As always, if anyone sees anything ‘unusual’ happening around the school over the break please call it in to the local police. We will have our grounds ‘crew’ in action on July 7 and some other maintenance work at various times in the second week of the break.

A reminder that dismissal time tomorrow is at 2.30pm. We envisage a return to Monday and Friday assemblies next term as well as volunteer helpers for Reading, the SAKGP, icy pole sales and so on. Watch this space.

Happy holidays!

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

Mental health support for students and families during school holidays Mental health support, resources and advice are available for students and families to access over the holidays

The Department has developed two fact sheets for students and families to support the mental health and wellbeing of students over the school holidays.

The fact sheets highlight resources and guidance which:

  • support positive mental health and wellbeing of students
  • help students and families identify the signs that students may need mental health support
  • help students and families access support.

The facts sheets are available in 19 different languages, to support all families and students to access support over the school holidays

Additional support Over the holidays, students can also access a range of support. This includes:

I very much hope that all families can use the holidays to relax and rest. It has certainly been a taxing term, presenting us all with many challenges.

Stay safe and well and I look forward to seeing you again in term 3.

Enjoy the holidays,

Gill

Learning During The Holidays A great winter activity and a way to continue your child’s literacy learning is to continue listening to them read and reading to them daily. At Viewbank Primary School all students have access to the literacy program Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress. Reading Eggs/Reading Eggspress can be used on any device that has internet access. Many students love using this resource as it gives them instant feedback on their learning, is fun, and helps to develop confidence and a love of reading. The program has many online books that students can access instantly.

Further to the above mentioned resource, students can also utilise the online website program Mathletics at home. Children have their own individual accounts and can complete tasks relevant to their own stage. Students have an opportunity to compete in live maths games against other children all around the world! Also, there are plenty of opportunities for everyday mathematics learning wherever you may be, including: cooking at home, ordering food on a menu, calculating change at the supermarket, etc.

The holiday period is also a wonderful opportunity for students to play and explore the world around them. In the world of play, your child might have the opportunity to become a builder, a sporting star, a fashion designer or even an astronaut! Their imagination during play helps to develop essential skills for life.

We hope you enjoy your time with your families, and we look forward to seeing you again in Term 3.

Karen Butler

TERM 3 EXPENSES will be posted on Compass on the last day of term, 25 June.

LATE ARRIVALS Just a reminder that any students arriving late must come to the office to collect a late pass before going to class so they will be marked as present otherwise parents will receive a text message asking to explain their child’s absence.
