Biocompatible elastomers: Covalent crosslinking is still one of the best ways to produce robust elastomers. Our interest in elastomers is driven by applications in the heart, the blood vessels and the lung. We design polymers that are compatible with these tissues, identify an efficient synthetic route and select a rapid crosslinking method to make tough elastomers. We subject these materials to series of tests to ensure compatibility with the intended tissues and relevant cells. Finally we fabricate the polymers into desirable shapes via various tools available to us at Cornell.
