A Moment in the Snow Slater Road walk

It doesn't matter that we've been here a thousand times before. The smells are always new and with a fresh layer of snow we discovered tracks.

The noise of the flock drew us to the field. As we walked out of the brush, it was as if a shot rang out and the air filled with the beat of the wings from hundreds of ducks. We watched with awe and the dog was on point wanting to explore the field before us. He waited and we were rewarded with a view of a hunter among the hunted.

Holding my breath and hoping to be able to capture it on film, I watched. Then the hawks swooped low and the small birds took flight, hiding in the trees under the bald eagles. The sounds were deaffening with the call of geese and ducks. It seemed unbelievable that I was only two miles from home but life was exploding around me. It was such a contrast to my quiet still neighborhood.
