ARC Education Planning Accessible Researched Comprehensive

February 2018

It seems like we were just ringing in the New Year, and now it's time to start making plans for Spring Break! Ahhh...warmer temperatures, the beach, a good book (or maybe no books)...who's dreaming with me? Hold on, before we get carried away, take a look at this issue's tips for planing a strong finish to your academic year. Make your college plans before making your vacation plans!

Class Registration Appointments

Class Registration: If you need help figuring out which high school classes to take, now is the time to set your appointment. Understanding that graduation requirements often are the minimum expectation at colleges is important. Beyond that, some students want insight as they consider AP and IB courses. Some students have questions about college foreign language requirements. Some students aren't sure about stepping up to honors or AP level courses. ARC evaluates the strength of your transcript and helps you sift through your options. Together, we chart a 4-year plan that maximizes your college potential. We also discuss summer plans that will make you stand out among other college applicants.

SAT or ACT: Know Your Options

Juniors, if you haven't already, it’s definitely time to finalize plans for college admissions testing. From planning when to take tests, to weighing test prep options, to figuring out which scores to send to colleges, ARC offers expert advice at every stage. ARC’s diagnostic testing helps students predict which test might present their strongest scores. Additionally, ARC offers affordable and convenient online test prep. ARC can advise students about the pros and cons of other options, such as local bootcamps, in-hom private tutoring, or live online tutoring. Testing can be a source of stress, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With ARC’s guidance, students set realistic expectations, gain confidence going into tests, and present their strongest scores. Upcoming SAT and ACT test dates are important to note so you can register and get them on your calendar now.

College Visits: From information sessions and tours, to accepted student days and scholarship weekends, college campuses get very busy this time of year with prospective high school students. Sophomores and juniors tend to be unsure about the process: how to register for a tour, what to expect, who will you meet, what is appropriate to wear. Seniors tend to be more focused on narrowing down their choices. Wherever you are in the process, ARC helps you feel confident and prepared as you step on campus. It's an exciting time, and putting your best foot forward counts. Learn how to make the most of your campus visit, which questions to ask (and NOT to ask), where to get a real feel for college life, and how to keep all of your visit details organized. ARC guides you through all stages, from planning and scheduling to visiting and evaluating.
Finally, use this month to show your potential colleges some love! Social media is a powerful tool and can put you on a college's radar (good and bad). If you aren't sure how to use social media to your advantage in the college search process, ARC can help. And while on the subject, if you have a digital footprint that needs to be cleaned up, take care of that first. Colleges and coaches are looking!
