Target Audience

With the rise of Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, the interest in houseplants and botanical life has dramatically incised in the last few years. With that in mind, our target audience would primarily contain those in the Millennials and Generation Z age groups, but could also include those on the tail-end of Generation X could be included. This would target people between the ages of roughly 13 to 45.

“It wasn’t until interior designers and lifestyle influencers gained traction on visual media channels like Instagram and Pinterest that plants became as popular as they are,” says Blank, who founded The Sill as an online plant retailer in 2012 and later opened two stores in New York City.

Our Competitors

Some popular alternatives include Blossom, Potted, Vera, and Sprouted
Users seem to be looking for an app that can identify, notify, and teach users more about their own house plants. That being said, all include some feature of notifying users of when specific plants need to be watered.

Ways to combat the issues with the app

  • Scheduled reminders/notifications based on the type of plant
  • Plant profile when you input what plants you have (i.e. how much water they need, type of soil, etc.)
  • Calendar tracker to plan plant watering schedule around trips user takes, etc.

Layout Idea:

We would set ourselves apart from competitors by using a more personalized approach.
