The 30 30 Rule

One new policy at Lawrence North this year that’s being talked about is the new 30 30 Rule. The rule restricts students from leaving class 30 minutes after entering class and 30 minutes before the bell to end the period. The exception to this rule is if an administrator, counselor or someone in the clinic gives a student a pass.

The new rule is not new to the district, however. It was implemented last year at Lawrence Central.

One of the administrators who decided on this new policy was Brian Atkinson, Interim Assistant Principal.

“We decided to do the 30 30 Rule because at the end of the year we had a lot of issue with people leaving class and distracting others,” Atkinson said.

Senior Javia Dycus understands the reasons why it was done, although she dislikes the decision.

“I feel like it’s stupid. I don’t really care since it doesn’t impact me, but it kind of makes sense since you still have thirty minutes to leave and you don’t do much in the first thirty or last thirty. So I guess it makes sense,” Dycus said.
