Farewell Year 12s!
Year 12 Final Assembly
On Monday 25 October, we held the Year 12 Final Assembly at the Morphett Vale campus. It was a joyous celebration of our Year 12 students, many of whom have been at the college for their entire schooling.
Our combined Year 11 and 12 Worship team began the assembly with songs of praise. This was followed by our college Captains, Rebekah, Jacques and Iona sharing words of encouragement to the younger year levels and reflecting on how they have grown in their relationships with God, especially in this final year of school. All of the Year 12 students were invited to the front to share what their plans are for next year and we know that God has incredible plans for each of them to impact this world in wonderful ways. Our principal Mrs Nelson spoke then, specifically to the Year 12 students, to encourage them in their walk ahead.
Prayer has become a focal point in the final assembly where the College Captains prayed over all of our new Foundation students and then the Year 11 students as they head towards doing Year 12. Teachers and Leadership then prayed blessings over the Year 12 students before they created a guard of honour for all year levels to pass through and say farewell.
We will miss this cohort who have bonded so well and supported each other through this important year. They are now completing exams and final assignments before their very final celebrations of Graduation, Formal and the Arts Extravaganza.

lego League
FIRST® Robotics is an internationally acclaimed robotics program that inspires a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in young people. Founded in the USA in 1989, today over 350, 000 students from nearly 80 countries participate each year. The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a robotics competition for middle school students, and this year, seven of our Year 6 students participated in the challenge held at Pedare Christian College on Thursday 28 October.
In the months leading up to the competition, students had to build and code their Lego ev3 Mindstorms robot to complete a number of missions on a specially designed First Lego League table. This year's theme was ‘Transportation of Goods’. The missions involved moving cargo in various ways around the table. The competition gave students three 2.5 minute attempts to score as many points as possible by completing missions. Our students spent many lunchtimes and after school sessions to prepare and practice for the competition and performed exceptionally well, especially considering that they were mostly competing against older students.
Students were also judged by a panel of industry experts on a separate part of the challenge called the ‘Innovation Project’. After researching current problems to do with transportation of goods (this year’s theme), our group designed a PIN protected, geo-sensing secure delivery box and gave a PowerPoint presentation explaining their concept and showing their cardboard prototype. The judges were impressed by the teamwork and problem-solving ability displayed by our team and scored them highly for this part of the challenge.
Coached by Mr Andrew Langmaid, the following students not only represented the College in an excellent manner at the competition, but also demonstrated outstanding logical and creative thinking skills and commitment as they participated in all aspects of the First Lego League Challenge 2021: Year 6 students, Luke, Caleb, Casey, Alexis, Christian, Matthew and Danielle.
Well done to all and we look forward to building on this year’s momentum as we aim to participate in next year’s competition!
