Teaching and Learning
As we enter our last month of school teachers and students will be involved in our end of the year assessments. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) and the Star Reading and Math assessments will all serve to assess student’s basic skills and competencies in Math, Reading and Science. While this 20-21 SY has certainly been unique, we will continue to assess student academic attainment and growth for the purpose of providing a focused and relevant instruction for all of our students.
In addition to May assessments, Teachers will be working together in their grade level and content area Curricular Teams to continue the curriculum development which ordinarily takes place during the school year. Our Curricular Teams will be working together to update and adjust curricula, update common assessments, and work toward a future standard based reporting system.
Facilities
We are very excited to welcome students back for 5 days a week. As a reminder, the district has implemented the CDC and IDPH recommended mitigation strategies (masking, social distancing, hand hygiene, cleaning/disinfecting, contact tracing) that will pose the lowest risk of school-based transmission. In addition to the 5 mitigation strategies listed above, we are also implementing a daily certification and/or temperature check screenings, high-quality ventilation and hiring additional cleaning staff.

Once these projects are complete, Diamond Lake School District will have replaced all major HVAC units, both roofs, and renovated all classroom spaces over the course of the last 3 years ensuring a modern facility for the foreseeable future.

P-EBT
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students who normally get free or reduced price school meals at school may be eligible for a program to help your family buy groceries. This program is called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT).
P-EBT provides eligible families with $6.82 in benefits per student, per day. These benefits are provided on a card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts LINK cards. Benefits will be issued starting in March, but they will be retroactive to the start of the 2020-2021 school year; benefits will go through the end of the school year.
If your child is already enrolled in free or reduced price school meals
- Your child will get P-EBT automatically for qualifying days (days when the child lacked access to an in-school meal).
- Each child will receive their own card with their name on it.
- Cards will be mailed to you in March/April.
- Cards will arrive in an unmarked envelope so please be on the lookout.
- Families should hold onto their P-EBT card(s) because future benefits will be loaded onto the same card.
If you are new to the district or your student is not enrolled in free or reduced price meals you must fill out a free or reduced application.
