BUKI TEAM MEMBERS
BRAND IDENTITY
Our team went through the process of determining our brand firm's name, tagline, and philosophy statement by doing collaborative brainstorming. We combined our favorite idea names on one platform and eliminated options together until we landed on Buki. After further research of professional businesses with similar names we ended up with Buki Collective as a full name.
NAME BRAINSTORMING
MOODBOARD
After nailing down our firms name and values, each team member created their own mood board, which were then brought together to form three style paths. We then decided to begin the creative process by using styles 2 and 3 for reference of mood and feeling, allowing room for overlap and incorporation of both styles.
Style 1
ORGANIC & ELEGANT
Natural, soft and fluid textures and graphic elements were combined to form this moodboard. It sets an organic and earthy tone for the brand with a touch of elegance and finesse.
While it connected to sustainability, we chose not to go in this direction because we didn't find it bold enough to pair with our brands name and mood we wanted to convey.
Style 2
BOLD & DYNAMIC
This modern bold and graphic approach combines geometry and color in a way that is visually dynamic and stimulating. It keeps the design classic with an experimental edge to it as well.
We chose to go in this direction combined with our third moodboard because it has the potential to keep the brand clean and modern at its core, while inviting playful energy and elements from the other board.
Style 3
ILLUSTRATIVE & FRIENDLY
Friendly, playful, and imaginative are all words that can be used to describe this moodboard. It layers bold and inviting colors with texture, line and shape in a way that is dynamic and captivating.
We chose to go with this style because of how it pairs with the second board. The result will give us a brand identity that reveals the firms high energy design attitude, while making it feel both approachable and professional.
LOGO & TYPE IDEATION
LOGO THUMBNAILS:
The team members split up with the moodboards in mind to begin creation of logo concepts and thumbnails, which were then voted through to the refinements stage.
TYPE IDEATION:
A series of type studies were generated as well to help establish the brand identity and be customized in some of the logo roughs.
LOGO ROUGHS:
After the previous thumbnails, refined explorations of the logo were made and more voting resulted to select a final few contenders.
FINAL LOGO COMPS & COLOR STUDIES
A final logo was selected for further refinement and exploration of color application
Tiffany went with a triadic color composition and made a very strong, bold, unifying look, like a stamp.
Paul's color comp was very funky and fresh. With light transparency letters to almost feel like a brush stroke it felt very fluid along with the bright colors to make it pop.
Stephanie decided to do a more organic shape to outline the shape and keep it grounded. The green color was to keep it playful, natural, and fresh.
Erin wanted to display the look of the arrow that the mark itself makes, and incorporate that by creating the shape within the letters as well as create contrast with the complementary color palette and sans serif type for 'collective'.
Caroline chose a bold and energetic color study that taps into the soulful and visionary aspect of the brand, while creating movement with the shadow element.
LOGO MARK MOCKUP
The logo rough previously selected was refined further and paired with "collective" to act as a secondary logo. A type study was done as well as a vote to decide.
REFINED MOCKUP AND TYPE
After all refinements were made, the Buki team had a finalized logo for their design firm.
Some size pairings were done to cross check readability in different scales
Then it was checked for contrast as it was inverted in black and white.
The last step was to apply color and shape outline as a final check.
EXECUTION OF DELIVERABLES
After finalizing our logo we were able to move ahead in conceptualizing ideas for our design deliverables such as stationery and a website.
THUMBNAILS
BUSINESS CARD ROUGHS
After everyone did roughs of business cards we went through another voting process to determine the final look.
STATIONERY & WEBSITE ROUGHS
We each went through and further designed specific parts of the stationery and website.
Here's each team members revisions of the roughs of stationery and or website.
Tiffany went through ideation of the envelope, business forms, and business card.
Paul went through and designed different website versions.
Stephanie designed different versions of the website home page, envelope, and business forms.
Erin designed different website page layouts and the envelope.
Caroline designed different business cards, letterheads, and website page layouts.
After reviewing everything we compiled a set of a final direction to base everything on.
REVISED ROUGHS
Our team finalized roughs of the website and stationery and created a final cohesive look for everything.
Tiffany designed different layouts and versions of the About and Contact page.
Paul further finalized the portfolio page as well as create different animation versions of what would be displayed on the home page.
Stephanie created different versions of the home page and business card.
Erin went through different layouts and versions of the services page, envelope, and the additional collateral of the mug.
Caroline finalized the look of the stationery and business forms to be in keeping with the brand identity.
This was our team's first final versions of everything all in one layout to get the overall feel of all our deliverables put together. As you can see, we came to a final design of the organic, flowing, black lines with accent colors mixed within. Our main color for our brand was that dark, almost royal blue that stands out really nicely on the white on the stationery. The business forms had little accents of the line design, and created a slight border on some of the edges as well as have the free form lines at the bottom breaking the border. Within the website we had that same organic line pattern repeated, and stuck to black solid blocks to display certain information, and the footer. We also had a recurring display of a block grid setup with pictures of our portfolio pieces and solid blocks as seen on the home page and services page. On the portfolio page we had the same setup, but with all images that would turn into the solid blocks if you hovered over.
