2020 In the Eyes of a Teenager By Catherine Khitiri and Kathryn Klukowicz

2020 was definitely a year. What started out as perfectly normal took a drastic turn for the worst. The question of when we would go back to normality loomed over our heads. This year was very much a burden for high school students. Gone where the days of classrooms, friends, sports, clubs, prom, and even graduation. Besides that obvious elephant in the room, 2020 was the craziest rides of our lives for many reasons. This slideshow captures each month of 2020, but in the eyes of a teenager, who are only just starting to navigate this tough world independently.

January: Happy New Year!

What started out as any normal year with laughter, fun, and ambition. What could possibly go wrong?

February: Hanging Out

It's a nice day to spend some time at the mall and even getting a bite to eat. No second thoughts. It's just innocent fun.

March: Only the Beginning

Two weeks off from school? Sounds great! If only I didn't have to wear this stupid mask everywhere.

April: Prom 2020

A fancy dress in a dingy basement. The TV was the DJ and the living room was the dance floor.

May: Revolution

Just outside our door were the cries and marches for social justice. Racial inequality has burdened America for centuries and the effects are still present today. Teenagers witnessed history just miles away from home.

June: School's Out!

Now that school (or lack thereof) is finally out for summer break, it's time to hit the pools and the beaches. Unfortunately since beaches and pools are closed, it's best to just do it from home.

July: God Bless America

Enjoying the beautiful red, white and blue spectacle from the comfort of your own home. Remember when this all started from a two-week long break.

August: Summer Homework

After a vacation-less summer, it finally becomes that time again to hit the books. A monotonous summer with a very anti-climatic ending.

September: Welcome Back Knights!

The thought of waking up at 7:30 for school used to be a mere fantasy. Now, students can literally role out of bed and make it in time for school. It's school without the socialization, memories and extracurriculars. What more to love?

October: Trick or Treat!

Another holiday ruined. Children either got no candy at all or spent the night finding a single house that would offer it. Teenagers missed out what could have been the best Halloween ever. Full moon on a Saturday.

November: Election Szn

Despite the disastrous year we've had, what better way to end it off with a political feud. The 2020 Presidential Election continued as planned. As us teenagers become more independent, we become feuded between the blue left and the red right.

December: I'll Be Home for Christmas

2020 has arguable one of the worst years in a while. Despite everything, we still continue to find the beautiful things in life. The holidays are always something to be celebrated, with or without friends.
