Sports has been one of the few programs that have offered students an opportunity for students to come together for in-person activities, making it one of the most important social experiences for Akins students this year.

The Eagle’s Eye interviewed several Akins athletes to ask them about some of the uplifting aspects of being involved with school athletics this year.

Trystin Brown, Senior (Football, Track)

What was the best thing that happened to you this year?

I think the best thing that happened this year was definitely winning district, advancing to area and regionals with my track friends. We work really hard up to this point and it has been a great experience even though this covid season

Name a person that made sports better this year

Lawrence Brown, my “brother” has made the track season a lot better. Running with him chilling with him and succeeding with him made this year great.

What achievement are you most proud of?

I am proud of all the hard work I put in throughout the year , I worked so hard in football, track and it paid off.

I’m on my way to Blinn college to hopefully fulfil my dreams of being a division 1 football player , and currently on the road to the state track meet

Name a person that made sports better this year

My teammates made everything better with times like this. Sports didn’t feel the same with COVID around but my teammates always made things better by laughing and enjoying our last year together.

What achievement are you most proud of?

I’m proud of being captain of the varsity team this year. It was my honor to lead my team every game!

Yadon Tramel, Senior (Track)

What was the best thing that happened to you this year?

The best thing that has happened to me as an athlete is making it to regionals in track. It was special because it was the first time Akins had made it that far and I’m glad I could be part of it.

Name a person that made sports better this year

Some people that made this track season better was without a doubt the coaches and qualifiers that were with me. The memories we got to make are sometimes that I’ll carry on forever.

I’m proud that I was able to PR in the events and just prolong the season for as long as I could. We went against lots of good teams and I’m glad we got to put Akins on the map.

Yarin Meirovich, Junior (Tennis)

What was the best thing that happened to you this year?

The best thing that happened to me this year as an athlete was staying with the team, and being able to overcome the difficulties we had together. The funniest thing that happened to me was missing the entire spring season (except district) because of a stupid injury

Name a person that made sports better this year

Cassie Murray made this tennis year much better for me because she was able to remind me of the Seniors that graduated last year and remind me of the team and friends I had there
