Liberty-Eylau ISD Receives Recognition for Transparency Efforts from Texas Comptroller

Liberty-Eylau ISD has garnered recognition for its finance department that no other Region 8 school has earned. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Liberty-Eylau ISD is the latest local government entity to achieve specific transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program. LEISD received stars in the areas of Traditional Finances and Debt Obligation, which recognize entities for their outstanding efforts in making their spending and revenue information available.

Transparency Stars recognize local government entities that provide easy online access to important financial data.

“By providing meaningful financial data in addition to visual tools and analysis of its revenues and expenditures, Liberty-Eylau ISD has shown a true commitment to Texas taxpayers. This effort achieves the goals set by my office’s Transparency Stars program,” Hegar said. “I am pleased to award LEISD a star for its accomplishments.”

“Susie Byrd and the finance department have worked hard to make the department more focused on customer service both internally and externally,” said LEISD Superintendent Ronnie Thompson. “By giving the public readily accessible financial information we can show our community that we value openness in how tax dollars are spent.”

Liberty-Eylau is the only district in Bowie County and one of two, (Along with Atlanta ISD) in Region 8 to earn the traditional services distinction. No other Region schools, and only 23 ISDs statewide have earned the Debt Obligations Transparency Star.

The Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides to greater government transparency. Local government entities can apply for stars in the areas of:

Traditional Finances,

Contracts and Procurement,

Economic Development,

Public Pensions, and

Debt Obligations.

After receiving an initial star for Traditional Finances, remaining stars may be awarded in any order. For more information on the program, including specific guidelines and information on how to apply, visit the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars website.
