Leadership students hosted a brand new lunch time event, the Can Jam, to kick off the final week of canning. The event included live music, hamburgers, donuts, and a booth for the California National Guard on the green.
Members of the Tailgate Club grilled hamburgers which they sold with chips and bottled water for five dollars. The Donut Club sold their regular Monday donuts for a dollar in front of the leadership room. All the proceeds for the event will go to Second Harvest Food Bank as part of the canned food drive effort.
Students Nathan Lepulu, Josh Lepulu, Alicia Letvin, and Sheba Tupa, provided live music; including their rendition of Escape (The Piña Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes.
Anna Leake, leadership student and co-founder of the Can Jam, thought it went well for a first-time event. She said, “with only a couple weeks of preparation to create an event, there were some places to improve, but overall the event was a success.” Leadership has not yet totaled the amount raised, but Anna said that they “are on track to reach the goal of 250,000 pounds of food”.
