Contemporary America is a mind-boggling complex society of subcultures. These subcultures can be complementary, or sometimes starkly contrasting in moral values, beliefs, practices, and learned behaviors. Without guidance toward an alternative, the nature of societies seems to nurture development of boundaries; thus, the boundaries sometimes nurture coalescence of subdivisions of ideals. It is this process that may prevent the more complementary aspects of the subdivisions from being valued equally or higher than the contrasting or conflicting traits.
