Practices on and off student athletes have been changing their daily routines to keep up with the changing pandemic response — but it's not Easy

“At the beginning of COVID-19, the pools were closed, and its not like running where you can just go on your own, so my team took a 3 month break which is the longest break I’ve taken in 10 years. We used to swim for the upwards of 20 hours per week, and it's around 6-10 [hours per week] in groups of 8. I’m just glad to be back in the water"

— sophomore Elizabeth Fetter, varsity swimmer

"I am looking forward to playing games with my team again because [football] has been very different and we haven’t been able to use equipment. Games won’t start until January, so hopefully COVID-19 is gone by then." (Update: athletes are waiting for CCS guidance to start meeting with their team again. Championships have been removed from the season.)

"It was really nice to see my team again. Cross Country used to be a few practices a week and while I am disappointed that practices are cancelled, I believe it's the right thing to do. I will miss running with my friends but I will still stay fit even without my coach".

— sophomore Finley Craig, junior varsity cross country runner

"I’m glad [club] soccer is restarting. It used to be on zoom and it wasn’t the same, but now we get to practice with our team and it’s great seeing everyone again. Even though we can’t play games, i’m excited to start practicing with my team again and I hope we don't get shut down again"

— junior Olivia Milne, blue team for Palo Alto Soccer Club

As Santa Clara Valley reaches the Purple Tier school sports are being shut down again to keep the athletes safe. Club sports are still in session at the moment but have restrictions set upon them.
