Nebraska Golfer July 2019

1 - Three Clubs Celebrate 100 Years

The history of golf in Nebraska spans back to the 1800s, but only a handful of golf courses have been around for more than a century. Three more clubs have joined that rarefied air in 2019. Established in 1919, Fairbury Country Club, Riverside Golf Club and York Country Club are all celebrating their 100th year anniversary. Only eight clubs in Nebraska pre-date this group. The Field Club of Omaha is the oldest golf course in Nebraska, opening in 1898. The rest of the list includes several hosts of the Nebraska Amateur, including The Country Club of Lincoln, Happy Hollow Club, Norfolk Country Club, Kearney Country Club, Beatrice Country Club and a couple others. Nate Lashley, formerly of Scottsbluff, qualified for the U.S. Open, put together a top 30 finish, and then ended the month with a bang. Lashley was the last man into the field as an alternate at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and cruised to win wire-to-wire, by six strokes for his first PGA Tour win. He's just the fourth native Nebraskan to win on Tour, and the first in more than 30 years.
