Girls cross country: junior Madison Rempalski
When did you join cross country?
This summer. I decided on a whim to go condition with the team at the White Pine Trail and decided to participate in it alongside volleyball.
Why do you love cross country?
It’s so inclusive and everyone is indescribably welcoming and encouraging. I also enjoy how adjustable it is, I can challenge myself at my own pace and go my own distances within practice itself.
What's your personal record?
XC 5k Race: 20 minutes and 46 seconds.
What is your goal for this season?
My primary goal is to finish a race in 19:45 or less. It’s a big commitment and challenge for me, but I believe I’m ready to accept it.
What keeps you motivated?
All the encouragement really keeps you going. So often you get tiny thoughts of “oh I shouldn’t push it today” or “oh one mile less” but then your teammate is right behind you telling you to keep going or a coach is cheering you on as you get to the top of a tough hill, and it really makes all the difference.

Boys cross country: sophomore Ryan Kamp
When did you join cross country?
In 7th grade.
Why do you love cross country?
Because you get to push yourself and get to show all the hard work you put in during the races. I also like that cross country allows you to really test yourself when it comes to the middle of a race or even how far you can go in practice.
What's your personal record?
5k: 18 minutes and 22 seconds
What is your goal for this season?
5k: 17:30
What keeps you motivated?
What keeps me motivated is all the people that finish in front of me in a race. I know that I have to do more and work harder than them to beat them, and if I do that, eventually I will beat them. What also motivates me is that I want to be top-10 in Northview history by my senior year.

Boys varsity soccer: junior Justin Griffith
When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer from a very young age around 4 or 5 and I’ve loved it endlessly ever since.
What position do you play?
I’ve learned to comfortably play any field position over the many years I’ve played the game, but my main positions are Center Midfielder (CAM) and Center Back (CB).
Why do you love soccer?
I love the sport for more reasons that I can count and it’s kind of hard to explain why in a few words. I love the game itself, the atmosphere it has and the people around the sport just bring a joy to my heart that I don’t get with any other sports I’ve played. Soccer has also always been a constant in my life and keeps me moving forward and motivated in all other aspects of life.
What keeps you motivated?
One of the more obvious motivators is my very evident competitive nature, but also just my drive to be the best I can be. I’ve always wanted to push myself to take my sports life as far as the Lord will bless me with the ability and opportunity to do so. One of the most recent motivators is the passing of my grandpa, he was someone who loved to watch me play more than anything and would just come to games with an ear to ear smile of pure joy. That smile is something I will never forget and playing for that is such a gift.
What is your goal for this season?
I have some personal goals for sure, mainly about how I want to perform for my team. One of my biggest personal goals is to make an All-State team. I’m working so that I can produce the level of play necessary to make that honorable team and hopefully it will pay off in the end. A goal that is one of personal value but also my team is to make a run in the state playoffs this year. I believe that we have a really good looking squad this year that is talented in many aspects of the game but also to almost equal importance if you ask me, we have all bonded off the field and created a great group of friends.

Varsity football: senior Brett Johnson
When did you start playing football?
I was six years old when I played my first year of flag football and I have been playing ever since.
What position do you play?
I play both running back and linebacker.
Why do you love football?
I love the game of football so much that it’s really hard to pinpoint what my favorite thing about the sport is. I think football is the perfect balance of mental and physical fitness and the sport really tests who you are as a person and how you respond to situations that don’t go in your favor. The overall theme of overcoming adversity and how us players respond to a negative situation is a lesson that is constantly preached by our coaching staff. Anyone that plays football will openly admit that there are times where this sport isn’t fun and the grind of the sport can be overbearing at times, however the overall bond that us players and coaches all share is what keeps us all coming back for another year.
What keeps you motivated?
To simply be the best team to ever play at Northview. As coach Gallery has stated before, “we are changing the culture here at Northview”. The players and coaching staff are determined to change the way people view Northview football and to develop a winning culture that will last long after I have graduated high school.

Girls Golf: sophomore Carly Southard
When did you start playing golf?
I started playing golf when I was about 8 from time to time, but really started to focus on the sport freshman year.
What has been your best score?
I don't know my best score since I didn't keep track of my scores last year but I did place 6th in our first invitational tournament for this season.
Why do you love to play golf?
I love to play golf because of many reasons but mainly, I like the environment and it is something I can do with my friends and family.
What keeps you motivated?
I am motivated because I want to keep playing golf in the future and I have put lots of time and effort into improving.
What is your goal this season?
My goal for this season is to improve in all areas but mainly to score in the low 40s for most tournaments.

Boys varsity tennis: junior Noah Howe
When did you start playing tennis?
Around age 5.
Why do you love tennis?
I have been playing tennis as long as I can remember. The summer camps I went to every year were some of the best moments I can remember. It's a sport that challenges you physically and mentally and has really helped me with my mental composure.
What keeps you motivated?
I have a very competitive mindset and I don’t like losing or making lots of mistakes. I also have a younger brother who is naturally gifted at every physical activity, so I will do everything in my power to make sure he doesn’t beat me. I also play doubles so my partner is also relying on me to play well.
What is your goal this season?
Personally I want to work on my consistency and ball placement, as well as limit my double faults which I have struggled with over the past two years. As a team I hope we win as many matches as possible. Our team has started out on a rough season but Northview always does. We're in a hard conference and regionals this year, but hopefully we will be able to win a few matches and place high in those tournaments as well. Overall I think it will be a great season.

Girls volleyball: senior Lindsey Lange
When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing in 3rd grade.
What position(s) do you play?
Throughout my entire volleyball career I’ve played every single position at least once but, currently I am a defensive specialist.
Why do you love volleyball?
There are many reasons to choose from, but probably my favorite thing about volleyball is the intensity of the game. When there’s an incredible rally and both teams are being aggressive with their plays, you get so wrapped up in the point and when you finally win, it’s the best feeling ever. It’s like being on top of the world. If you lose ,it just drives you to get that next point even more. The atmosphere of the sport itself is so intense and competitive that when you’re playing, you just get this crazy adrenaline and there's nothing like it.
What keeps you motivated?
For me, my team (including my coaches) are my biggest motivator. All the girls and coaches are super encouraging in everything that we do from drills to workouts. We all just push one another to be as Coach Taylor puts it, “Always above average.” Always trying to beat what you think is your ‘best’ because we all know we can go so much further than what we think our limits are. In volleyball, since I first started playing in high school freshman year, it was always prevalent through everyone's words and actions that when you’re in the gym or in the weight room, whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it for your team. If you cheat yourself, you cheat your team, if you give up on yourself, you give up on your team, we are individuals but we play as a team and our mindset and our actions need to reflect that.
What is your goal this season?
To be above average. We’re setting a new precedent for our program to be that 1%, to push for everything we want, for ourselves and for the younger players in our program. It’s not enough to just do the set expectation of what we’re supposed to do anymore, if the coach gives us a number of sets or reps to do we’re going to do extra, we’re going to push ourselves further than we thought we could go. We can’t allow ourselves to settle for ‘average’, as individuals, as a team or as a program. Every day we fight to get better on and off the court and that’s the expectation we set for ourselves everyday. We have already progressed so much in just the couple weeks we’ve had in our season so far and I’m so excited to see how far we go and how much we accomplish this year.

Girls varsity swim and dive: junior Hasten Horling
When did you start swimming competitively?
I started really late actually. [I started] in 7th grade but have stayed with it.
What is your favorite style of swimming?
My favorite stroke is breast stroke, that's what I’m best at. Starting out I had no idea what my stroke was going to be, but right away my coaches and I saw breaststroke was the best for me.
Why do you love swimming?
I get to go to practice right after school and be with my teammates. It refreshes my mind right after school and I can work hard and not think about anything except the sets. I love competing against people and seeing how my work in practice shows when I touch and look at the board. I also [enjoy] all the hard sets I get to do with my teammates. It's so nice after a hard practice to say that we all finished it together. I love all of my coaches, my high school and my club coaches, they really help me get to where I want to be.
What keeps you motivated?
The meets are what keeps me motivated. I like to see where I can go from the beginning of the season to the end. My teammates also keep me motivated and I think we all help each other to become our best. At the end of the day, I think that dreaming about what I want to accomplish in the future is what really keeps me motivated, it's like all I think about. When I go to practice I think about what I want and in practice I get to work for that everyday. I want to go far with this sport and the only way I can do that is to grind everyday until I'm where I want to be.
What is your goal this season?
My goal this season is to get all state and all conference and to get Northview's record in the 100 Breaststroke. My overall goal is for Northview's state team to get all states. I am so excited to see where my team can go in the next couple of months.
