We are pleased to announce a very generous donation of $50,000 made by the internationally acclaimed award winning artist Abel Tesfaye - The Weeknd for the establishment of Ethiopic Studies at the University of Toronto. The actual cheque presentation will take place during the Bikila Barefoot Challenge event at the Varsity Stadium on Saturday, August 6 starting at 5:00pm. Remembering Olympic Marathon Hero, Abebe Bikila
Come and join us on the first Bikila Barefoot Challenge
The very first Bikila Barefoot Challenge will be inaugurated on the eve of what would be Abebe Bikila's 84th birthday on August 6, 2016. The event is jointly organized by the University of Toronto and Bikila Award at the Varsity Stadium, 299 Bloor St. West Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As part of Bikila Award’s mission of promoting excellence, the aim of this event is to remember the legacy of marathon hero Abebe Bikila annually. All funds raised from this event will go to the establishment of Ethiopian Studies at the University of Toronto and to Bikila Award programs.

During this inaugural event, a very well known Ethiopian athlete Belaineh Densamo, marathon world Record holder for 10 years will be attending as honorary guest. There will be athletic competitions and live entertainment and much more.
