KHS Coalition's Panama Dress Drive Jan. 16 - Feb. 16

Cause:

Allison Hudgins, KHS alum, started Five Stars Academy with two other women in 2011 inside of a shipping container in the lush, secluded rural areas of Panama. The KHS Coalition is working with Hudgins to provide dresses for less fortunate girls who wish to pursue an education, but lack an adequate supply of clothes. With your donation, girls of all ages will be able to feel beautiful as they strut into school with their new attire. Check out Thomas Birmingham's feature on Allison Hudgins and her adventures in Panama on The Kirkwood Call website to learn more.

How to donate:

Donate dresses in the main office or any grade level office at Kirkwood High School. Once you get there, you will be asked to fill out a card that includes your phone number or email address, which will allow us to track your donation. If you wore your dress to a special event or have any significant memories involving the dress, you will have an opportunity to pass on its legacy to Panama. Dresses must be in a wearable condition and all sizes and styles are accepted.

After your donation:

Because the Dress Drive is not a charity-sponsored event, your donation will be incredibly personal. Make sure to include your contact information with your donation and we will send you a photo of the Panamanian girl that receives your dress along with a message of gratitude.

More about the KHS Coalition:

The Coalition is a club at Kirkwood High School that promotes equality among all genders, races and sexualities. In the past we have organized a Feminine Hygiene Product Drive, sold wristbands to promote feminism, hosted experts to speak on current issues, collected money for Dignity Period and other charities to assist women in need and more. The KHS Coalition meets in Dr. Barker's room (W-122) on Thursdays and alternates between after school and evening time slots. Follow @thecoalitionkhs on Instagram and @thecoalitionKHS on Twitter for more info. Send us a direct message on either of these social media platforms if you have any questions or would like to be added to the GroupMe.
