Hello Everyone!

Today, I am excited to share an RD blogger Lindsay Livingston with you! She is a Registered Dietitian from Columbus, Ohio. She is also a mom of two kids now.

Lindasy

I came across with her blog when I was looking for an easy breakfast recipe. I saw that one of her posts is titled "5 MINUTE BREAKFAST HUSH". I was immediately attracted to click into her post and browse her content.

What impressed me the most is the delightful layout of her blog. Everything is clean and concise, easy for audiences to browse and navigate through. She sticks her posts to real, simple and balanced principles. There are seven main categories at the top navigation bar including "Recipe", "Kids", "Became an RD", "Ebooks and Free Resources". Under each main categories, there are also various subtopics. I took a screenshot of a part of her blog to give you a glance.

She uses bright colors like green and yellow to highlight title page, which give me a "healthy" feel. The background is white, which is clean and gives no distraction to the main content. She keeps the fonts and words clean and concise, which makes it easy for people to read and follow.

Not only the design of the blog pleases me, but also the content is appealing. She uses an informal tone to communicate with people and incorporate her professional knowledge into simple tips.

Taking the "5 MINUTE BREAKFAST HUSH" as an example.

At the beginning, she casually talks about the inspiration of her "new invention", then explains the nutrition aspects of the dish.

Later on, she explains the relationship between the preparation time and preparation steps in detail so that audiences can truly understand and make their own adjustment to the recipe. She narrates the steps in paragraphs first, and then put them into concise tips later for people who would like to dive into recipe directly.

As you can see, the layout is clean and tips are concise and professional. If you are interested in this post, here's the link: "5 MINUTE BREAKFAST HUSH"

On the other hand, she not only shares her own creation, but also some online resources to her audiences under the resources categories:

Besides nutrition and diet, she shares her motherhood life and daily fun events under the section "Thursday Things".

I think this part is really helpful to make the blog appealing and interesting. I would like to incorporate a similar part to my future blog. I want to share my new findings and some trendy stuff with my audiences to make my blog more interesting.

In the end, if you are interested in Lindsay's blog, check it out, and go follow her!

Thank you!

See you next time!

Pamphlet For Elders

Hello everyone!

Today, I would like to share a useful educational pamphlet for older adults regarding to the nutrition facts label. The pamphlet is published by FDA (US Food and Drug Administration); therefore, it is an accurate and reliable resource for us to read through. It is good for elders to have this pamphlet at home as a reference. This pamphlet would help the elders to learn about how to choose healthier foods when doing grocery shopping.

The cover page of the pamphlet is a picture of an old lady comparing food products in a grocery store. The posture of the lady, which attracts my attention, shows her high-standard attitude towards living. The main title "Using the Nutrition Facts Label" is right above the picture, and the subtitle "A How-to Guide for Older Adults" is right beneath the picture. Both titles together directly reveal the content and target audience of this pamphlet. At the bottom of the cover there is a FDA sign that indicates the publisher of the pamphlet

The Pamphlet Cover

The pamphlet uses white and yellow with different brightness as the primary tone to give the readers a fresh and healthy impression. The layout is very functional and pleasing. The contents are divided into few categories and displayed on the second page as a helpful guidance for reading.

The Index of the Pamphlet

More detailed information is delivered in clear short paragraphs and pictures after the index page. The pamphlet does a good job balancing text with whitespace. The key words are highlighted in different font sizes or colors which can be easily distinguished. Creative signs are widely used to facilitate reading.

Signs in the Pamphlet

It first professionally explains the key facts that need to be known, and then teaches the audiences how to use these knowledges to make better dietary choices. It also gives out great examples of specific contents such as fat and fiber that are closely related to the healthy issues of elders.

The language level of this pamphlet is high school reading level. It provides a glossary section at the end of pamphlet for quicker reference to some biological terms that are not commonly seen. This feature enhances the reading for elders. I would like to incorporate this helpful part into my future pamphlet.

So, let's check it out with the following link! : Pamphlet

Author Post 3

Hello all!

It's been a long time!

Today, I would like to share something different from previous posts. I know that there are many of you raising pets at home. How to feed them in a scientific and healthy way is always the top of your concerns. It is always better to prevent health issues than to fix them, because when it comes to illness it will cost a lot more!

Therefore, I am eager to share some nutritional tips for your pet's meal now. This post would focuse on dogs, and I may talk about other pets in later posts.

Good nutrition is critical for dogs to maintain a healthy and happy life. It fulfills cell's needs and prevents illness-related deficiency. However, there's no specific formula to tell you how to choose and how much to feed your dog because dogs vary in sizes and ages.

The following are some suggestions to give you some ideas about how to feed your dog:

First, the most straight forward way is to ask your vet for recommended portions.

Except for asking vet, the commercial dog food is also a safe choice because it is designed to meet all the dog's nutrition needs. Just make sure you pick the right one that's suitable for your dog's life stage

As for puppies that are 6 months or younger, they should eat three to four times a day. At 6 months, they can eat twice daily. Once pups become adults, they can get one or two meals a day, depending on how much exercise they get.

It is often the case that you may want to scrap some food from your own plate to your dog when they play around you. You get to be careful: FDA warns that chocolate, fatty foods, chicken bones, moldy foods, salty snacks, and raw meat are not good for pets.

Another common issue you need to be aware of is the overweight of your pet. Some people may shower their dog with love by feed them big meal and lots of tasty treat and causes their overweight.

Like human, overweight may also increase health problems. So, how to detect it? For healthy weight, you should be able to feel the backbone and touch the rubs in an animal. Also, you should see a noticeable waist between the back of the rib cage and the hips when looking at your pet from above.

For the doggies that are overweight, we suggest you to manage it by correcting the diet and enhancing the exercise.

On the other hand, it is an increasing trend to feed pet with raw meat. For those pet owner's you need to seek for professional suggestions for the options and preparation. And the following, I attached a professional resource for you to learn as a guidance:

Hope today's posts would be helpful for you guys! Wish all your doggies a happy life! See you next time!
