Westfield FFA CUP ACTION
8 May 2017
SWQ Thunder Senior Men's team will come up against PS4 NPL rival, Gold Coast City, in round 6 of the Westfield FFA Cup competition. With the midweek match being played this Wednesday evening under lights at Clive Berghofer Stadium, the Thunder Men have the home ground advantage.
In Thunder's favour, Gold Coast City may be feeling the pinch having played on Saturday, while the Thunder boys had a rest with the PS4 NPL bye.
Coming off the back of a great win the previous week verse Western Pride FC, the SWQ Thunder Senior Men's team is full of enthusiasm and confidence. Another win could really see the team hitting their stride with coach Francesco Zanoncelli leading the way.
One thing is for sure, this Wednesday night in the knockout Westfield FFA Cup Match, the Thunder Men will as always, play some great football and leave the crowd entertained. See you there for a fantastic night of football action.

Chocolate Frenzy
In March, perfect timing for Easter, the club ran a successful Chocolate Fundraiser. A great effort from the organisers who handed out in excess of 100 boxes of chocolates to 12 teams!
Also a fantastic effort from all of our Thunder Football Families who sold or ate! the chocolates. This whole of club effort in fundraising was truly appreciated and a great reflection on our great club. Go Thunder!
HOME GAME HELPERS
"In Union there is Strength"
We've had a bit of a run of home games, which is certainly a nice break from travelling! We have had such a great response from Thunder families who have helped out in so many ways - Gate Duty, Ground Set Up, Ground Announcers, Photography, Ground Officials, Bar Duty, Ground Pack Up, Referee Liaison and the list goes on!
We only have a few more home games left for the rest of the season (I won't tell you how many!) - so all of our lovely volunteers, please don't give up on us yet! We love to see you all helping out and look forward to more volunteers all the time. If you want to help but are not sure how? just drop a message to the SWQ Thunder FC Facebook page or talk to your team manager.
FOOTBALL FASHION
New team kits were handed out to all of the junior club recently. A massive effort in organisation from the club. Thanks Thunder board members! With both the junior and senior players in all new kits the club is looking smart and professional wherever they go, be it at training or games.
We have had a fantastic response from local businesses who have sponsored the SWQ Thunder FC teams. We will be posting appreciation posts on our Facebook page for all of our sponsors so remember to like and share to show them some of our THUNDER APPRECIATION!
Thunder Talk
- The Senior Men's team welcomed a new coach, Francesco Zanoncelli and a new goalkeeper, Luke MacDonald, in recent weeks. Both men bring a lot of experience in their respective positions. Welcome to the Thunder Football Family, Francesco and Luke!
- SWQ Thunder Women's team have had an unfortunate run of injuries. We hope for a speedy recovery for all
- Huge kudos to our Volunteer Ground Officials who supervised a difficult match recently with disgruntled visiting supporters. Also great praise for our Thunder Supporters who behaved appropriately and in line with our club Code of Conduct. Let's all make a pact as a club to NEVER cause a problem for Ground Officials, either at home or away! #welldonethunder #positiveoritspointless
- SAP teams have recently played their fixtures before our PS4 NPL Junior Boys & Girls teams. A real thrill for the SAP players and a great opportunity for Thunder to see them in action.
- Unfortunately, a Visiting player with family in tow arrived at Clive Berghofer Stadium ready to play with his team - only to realise that they were meant to be playing at the Sunshine Coast and had driven to the wrong place! Lesson to be learned - CHECK YOUR DRAW!! But if this does happen to you, at least you will know you are not the first and certainly not the last!
Thunder & You
