Monday, Nov. 1

Dear University community,

With ghouls and pumpkins dispatched, it’s on to Thanksgiving, and soon the holidays that follow.

  • We had a great Wicked Wellness and Spooky Week 2021, and an impressive showing of students enjoying Maroon Madness with TAMIU Dustdevil Athletics. Dr. Colin Campbell’s improvisational accompaniment on the Sharkey Corrigan Organ to the silent film classic “The Phantom of the Opera” Saturday was great fun. It was uplifting to see our University community together again throughout last week.
  • On Tuesday at 11:45 a.m., we’ll celebrate 1,641 students who are making timely progress to complete their degrees in four years. Join us at the “Four Years, Many Futures” ceremony and see their names join other students on this 18-foot permanent display.
  • Also this week, we’re looking into the future of TAMIU and need your help. Perkins&Will, a leading Austin-based architectural firm, is helping us to create a Master Plan to guide the development of our campus…and we’re seeking your input.
  • What do YOU think? What will our campus look like in 25 years? What should be added? What might be improved? What might we anticipate? Help us see TAMIU’s future. Students, join us from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the Student Center Rotunda. Faculty and Staff, you’re next with a session from 2 – 4 p.m., also on Tuesday, in the Student Center Ballroom.
  • On Wednesday, join TAMIU Dance professors Jee Eun Ahn and Timothy Rubel for a casual, on-campus info session Wednesday, November 3 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Breezeway between Dr. F. M. Canseco Hall and Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall. We offer a Dance minor and multiple performance opportunities across a variety of Dance disciplines. Check them out!
  • Dr. Manoj Pradhan, founder of Talking Heads Macroeconomics and co-author of “The Great Demographic Reversal,” will discuss the “demographic sweet spot” of the past three decades created by the integration of China’s massive labor force and baby boomers into the workforce. To register, search for Webex Event #2465 125 8822, or visit https://go.tamiu.edu/pradhan.
  • Fall Commencement Ceremonies will be Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Sames Auto Arena. College of Arts and Sciences ceremonies for all undergraduate and graduate students will be at 11 a.m. Ceremonies for all other TAMIU Colleges and Schools graduates will be at 4 p.m. that day. Find out more from the dedicated Commencement website.
  • Registration for the Spring Semester 2022 starts TODAY. Don’t wait to plan your next semester now. ICYMI, a new ranking by Student Loan Hero, a LendingTree® company, has identified TAMIU as the Least Expensive Public College/University in Texas. Researchers analyzed data from over 1,800 colleges and universities to arrive at their selections.
  • TAMIU faculty, staff, students, and the public can access National Guard-administered COVID-19 vaccines through the end of November 2021. We appreciate their partnership and support. Here’s more on testing.
  • TAMIU’s random COVID-19 testing is underway. If selected, you must test within 72 hours. Testing is for ALL members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff. That’s all of us…because all of us are in this together! Please share our commitment.

Have a great week… and Go Dustdevils! Stay safe and stay well.

- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President
