Ember Alonso
The 18 year old high school graduate making a name for herself in the world of art.
The first time Ember Alonso ever made art she was only three years old. It was the support of her family that planted the seed that would become the foundation for her career. "A lot of it was inspiration by my older brother because he's an artist as well and I would learn things from him and also my competitive spirit would be like I want to be better than him so I would try harder," Ember Alonso said. As a career she wants to "go into illustration and concept art for video games, cartoons and movies."
The designing process for video games, cartoons, and animations starts with story boards. The same character drawn in different ways and the best one is selected. A lot of what Ember currently does is character design. "Right now I make characters and I give them personality and try to portray that personality through the picture." The art not only shows the features of the character, but it is also able to show who that character is through mood, tone and the theme of the whole picture much like poetry.
Creativity is the highest level of intelligence and art is one of the most well-known and practiced forms of creativity. For Ember the power of creativity is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to school. She says, "The expectation to be creative is higher for me, but I also am able to focus for long periods of time so I have a lot of self-motivation." It is an extremely powerful thing to be able to create. For Ember art means "skillfully capturing the beauty in that which makes up an individual's world specifically what goes on in his or her head or in their senses."
Ember is currently a commission artist. She has sold over 30 pieces. She is living out her dream of being an artist and is doing very well for herself. Her long term goal is "To be if not the best be one of the greats in my area. I don't need to be good at everything to be good at something," Ember Alonso said.
