Make with Umar A free, virtual makers camp for kids and adults who like to make things.

What is make with Umar?

'Make with Umar' is a free, virtual makers camp for kids and adults who like to make things. We will experiment with electronics, coding, crafts, STEM and DIY toys, and maybe even cooking, baking and gardening projects.

Umar is my six year old son and he loves to tinker and make things. My name is Naveera and I am a homeschooling mom, a self taught developer. I make web apps, chat bots, and eLearning courses and games. I also teach programming classes. You can see my other projects on my website.

Why 'Make with Umar'?

There are any number of maker communities out there. But a lot of the parents I know feel intimidated by the jargon, and the list of tools and materials required for most of the projects. My aim is to find easy-to-make stuff, which one can make using stuff lying around the house. You can think of it as a diluted version of the bigger maker communities. Or you can call it 'Making at home' initiative.

How to participate?

Every couple of weeks I will post instructions to make a new project. I will try to find projects which can be made using things on hand, so we can enjoy maker activities without breaking the bank.

You can make the projects at our own place and pace, but do share the progress and the end result with us and the world by using the hashtag #makewithumar on all social media channels.

We will help each other and encourage each other and hopefully grow into a community of children and adults who like to tinker and make things.
