SUMMIT info for PARENTS: Hello Boise High School Families, We are a few months away from our 5th annual Summit. This year's Summit will be held on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. The summit is an annual, conference-style, project-based learning experience put together by and for the students of Boise High. This year’s theme is “We are Brave” and will focus on ways students perceive being brave. Our students-teaching-students model highlights our impassioned, informed students, and continues a culture of engaged activism and Project-based learning at Boise High. If you’d like more information or to see highlights from our past Summits visit Boise High Summit Homepage. Some students have already auditioned to be one of many acts in our Summit Talent Show. The show will be in the afternoon on the 18th. More students can be involved in two more important ways: 1 - Host a presentation. Presentations are 20 minutes long and you will present between 4-5 times throughout the day. 2 - Host a workshop. Workshops are 45 minutes long and are hands-on or interactive. Please encourage your student to step-up and be brave.

Graduation 2020 from Principal Thompson: Boise High’s graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at ExtraMile Arena. The date was approved by the Boise School District Board of Trustees in December and the Board has confirmed that the date will not be changed. Many alternative options were considered and rejected for a variety of reasons. Second, I assure you that every effort will be made to respect the traditions and excellence expected at our Graduation ceremonies, including student musical performances. We all want this to be a special celebration for the class of 2020 and a wonderful evening to be remembered. Thank you! Mr. Thompson, Principal

Tardies: Students who are more than 20 minutes late will be marked absent instead of tardy. The attendance office recognizes buses that are late due to weather or bus issues and will excuse those tardies. However, students should ALWAYS check into the Attendance Office when arriving late to class.

Late Buses: If your bus is late to school at any time including, weather or bus issues, please check in with Mrs. Rivera at the Attendance Office for a late bus pass to prevent a first period tardy.

Lady Brave Basketball

Varsity Team

The Varsity Lady Brave finished with two tough opponents to conclude their regular season before districts. On Tuesday, they traveled to take on top-ranked Timberline in the hopes of avenging an early-December loss to the Wolves. Boise was short-handed in the guard position due to injuries and illness, but the Brave battled hard in the first half and went into the locker room down just three points, 23-26. Then, on their first possession of the third, Senior Madi Williams drilled a three-pointer, knotting the score at 26. However, after that bucket, the Braves struggled to find the bottom on the net and only managed to score two more points off two free-throws in that period which put them into a fairly large 28-42 hole to start the fourth. Down but not out, the Brave continued to fight until the final buzzer sounded, but the Wolves out-lasted the Brave and earned the 39-58 victory. Senior Peyton McFarland and Junior Allison Ross led the Brave with 11 points a piece.

Boise had no time to hang their heads from the loss and instead turned their attention to Thursday's game versus the Meridian Warriors. It was senior night, and the Brave enjoyed recognizing their five, fabulous seniors (Allie Guerricabeitia, Breana Hallam, Peyton McFarland, Hope Shimatsu, and Madi Williams) in a short ceremony before tip-off. Whether it was the emotion of the night or something else, the Brave had trouble getting their engines started in the first and quickly found themselves down 8-15. Boise found its rhythm in the second quarter, closing the gap to just three points (22-25) by halftime. The Brave found itself down double-digits in the 4th, but again demonstrated resilience, eventually taking the lead with approximately 26 seconds left. Meridian was able to score once more, and Boise was not able to capitalize on their last possession which led to the 45-46 loss. Senior Peyton McFarland led the Brave with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Allison Ross added 7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the loss.

Boise will enter the district tournament on Thursday (2/6) as the 4-seed and will play Rocky Mountain at 7:30pm at Borah High School. Please consider coming out to support your Lady Brave!

Boise Jv vs Timberline

This was a challenging game with four players out due to sickness and injury. Boise started a little cold in the first only scoring four points but held Timberline to only 8. The Second quarter Elena Gutierrez made a sparking three and Nora Sprague added two nice jump shots. Going into half Boise trailed 13 to 18. Savannah Timmel started the quarter with a nice three pointer but defensively Boise’s steam was wearing down. The fourth quarter Lydia Nance attacked the basket but the deficit was too much. Timberline sealed the game with some big three pointers in the fourth making the game 25 to 44. Top scorers were; Savannah Timmel 5, Elena Gutierrez 5, Laia Richter 4, Nora Sprague 4, Lydia Nance 3, Liz Duke-Moe 2, and Grace McCormick 2.

January 30, 2020 Boise Jv vs Merdian

This game was a very physical game from tip off. Points first quarter were going back and forth with big free throws by Brooklyn Arriola and Grace McCormick. Second quarter Boise scored 9 points with 5 from Lydia Nance. Unfortunately, with a hard hit to the face Brooklyn Arriola would not return to the game due to a broken nose. Merdian shot well with three big three pointers in the second quarter leaving the score 19 to 35 at half time. Boise did not give up and continued to attack and get to the free throw line scoring 9 to Meridian’s 9 in the third. The fourth quarter Ella Auchampach attacked the basket making two jump shots followed by a big three pointer by Lydia Nance. Boise outscored Merdian in the fourth 13 to 10. Although the score ended up being 41 to 54 Merdian, Boise went 15 for 22 from the free throw line which shows much improvement for the team. Top scorers were; Savannah Timmel 8, Ella Auchampach 8, Lydia Nance 8, Grace McCormick 4, Nora Sprague 4, Elena Gutierrez 3, Liz Duke-Moe 2, Brooklyn Arriola 2, and Laia Richter 2.

February 1, 2020 Boise Jv vs Eagle

Boise ended up in the 6th place seed for the District tournament matching up against Eagle the third seed. The game started off with great defense for both teams were no one scored for several minutes. Eagle ended up scoring the first points off free throws. Boise had a hard time not fouling and allowed 6 free throws. Offensively Liz Duke-Moe made the first basket for Boise and Lydia Nance made the second basket in the second quarter. Offensively Boise got a little flustered and turned the ball over too much before they settled down. Second quarter Laia Richter took control of the game and scored 7 points which was a huge spark for the team. At half Boise trailed Eagle 13 to 23. Going into the third quarter Eagle hit two big three pointers and Boise’s Defense allowed some easy buckets. Laia Richter hit another big three pointer, but Boise was outscored 6 to 12 in the third quarter. Fourth quarter is when Boise started to work together despite the score and held Eagle to only 4 made free throws. Nora Sprague hit a nice three pointer off a great steal by Liz Duke-Moe. Grace McCormick stole the ball and attacked the basket add four points. Savannah Timmel add four more points allowing Boise to outscore Eagle 11 to 4. Unfortunately, it was too little too late but Boise did not give up and fought til the buzzer. Final score 30 to 40. Top scorers were; Laia Richter 10, Grace McCormick 6, Savannah Timmel 6, Liz Duke-Moe 3, Nora Sprague 3, and Lydia Nance 2. It was a nice season with some great basketball. We wish Sophomores best of luck as they advance to the semifinals, and we wish Varsity luck with their District tournament as well. Go Boise!!

Frosh/Soph Girls Basketball Tournament Feb 1st, 3rd, 5th at Rocky Mountain High School. See link to All 5A Tournament brackets below -

The sophomore Brave basketball team traveled to Timberline on Tuesday. It was a close first quarter with a low score of 6-4 in our favor. The Brave picked up the pace in the second quarter and went on an 11-6 run. This put them ahead by 7 going into halftime. However, the Wolves came out ready to fight in the third quarter and outscored the Brave 10-1. The Wolves now had the upper hand with a score of 18-20 starting the fourth. After a back to back layup and three-pointer from freshman Evie Bretz, the Brave kicked it in gear and went on a 15-6 run to give a final score of 33-25. Abby Mitchell-Burleson led the scoring with 8 points and 5 steals, while Sabunay Machu and Evie Bretz both pitched in 7 points and a combined 10 steals.

On Thursday the Warriors of Meridian High School came to Boise High. The sophomore girls started out hot with freshman Caroline Turcke leading the way, scoring the first three baskets of a shutout first quarter. The score was 13-0. The second quarter was much of the same and the Brave went into the locker room up 25-4 at halftime. The second half was much less exciting than the first as the Brave only outscored the Warriors 11-6 to give a final score of 36-10. This was the final game of the Brave's regular season and every single player on the team was able to contribute baskets. Abby Mitchell-Burleson and Caroline Turcke each scored 6 points, while Sabunay Machu added 4 points, 4 steals, and 2 assists.

On Saturday morning the Brave started their District Tournament. As the undefeated #1 seed they came up against the #8 seed Skyview High School. The first half looked great for the Brave as they were able to put up 21 points and hold Skyview to only three baskets for a 21-6 halftime score. Boise had a big third quarter shutting out the Hawks 13-0. The Brave came out on top in the end with a final score of 41-10. Sabunay Machu and Caroline Turcke each pitched in 10 points. Machu also led the Brave defensively with 4 steals. Becca Kershisnik added 7 points of her own.

The sophomore team continues their District Tournament this week with the semi-finals happening tonight at 6:00pm at Rocky Mountain High School. They will take on the Patriots of Centennial High School and would love your support!

Boys Basketball

Brave Varsity Basketball

The Brave varsity had two games this past weekend. On Friday they traveled to Centennial to play against the Patriots. The game was a tough battle that was close throughout the whole game. The Brave held a 1 point lead with 17 seconds left on the clock and Centennial found a way to score with 9 seconds left. The Brave had one last opportunity for a buzzer beater and just missed a layup to win.

On Saturday night the Brave had a "party in the USA" theme and the student section was rocking! At halftime Philip Gisler was awarded the "Knight in Shining Armor" award that is given out by Lyle Pearson to students who display great character in all that they do. The Brave ended up winning 62-31.

Philip Gisler Knight in Shining Armor Award PC Stephanie Fornander

They play again Wednesday night at Eagle and will celebrate senior night against Timberline on Friday, February 7th. Come out and support our amazing seniors as they play their last home game.

Brave JV Basketball

The JV boys basketball played at Centennial Thursday and against Skyview at home on Saturday.

At Centennial, the Brave were down 10 points at half against a good Centennial JV team. The Brave battled to try to cut into it (a couple of times getting it to single digits, but would struggle to find enough consistent stops). The deficit ended up being an 11 point loss, 61-50.

While at home against Skyview, the Brave once again found themselves down early. It was hard once again for the Brave to dig out of the first quarter hole that was created. The Brave spent the entire time trying to claw back, but were never able to. They ended up losing 55-40.

Wrestling

Tomorrow Tuesday, February 4th, the Boise Brave Wrestling Team will travel to Timberline High School to take on the Ridgeview Warhawks from Nampa. Wrestling will begin @ 6:00pm.

Following the exhibitions, the Brave JV team held their own against the Eagle JV team and helped to fill the PIN Pail with 6 PINS! The Brave Varsity team completed the night against a strong Eagle Varsity team and were only able to score twice during the match. Final Score was in favor of the Mustangs, 12-75.
