Goodie Two Shoe Aggies Mountain West schools help kids get new kicks

Thursday morning the Utah State band and cheer squad, in partnership with other Mountain West bands/cheerleaders and the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, helped around 475 low-income family kids get brand new shoes and backpacks.
Nikki Berti co-founded Goodie Two Shoes along with her husband, former NFL offensive lineman Tony Berti. Since 2003, the two have outfitted more than 100,000 kids in Clark County through the organization. Nikki and Tony were inspired to start this event by a similar one they participated in when they were in San Diego where Tony played for the Chargers.

“Most people don’t think about shoes as being that important," Nikki Berti said, "because everybody has a closet full. But so many of the kids we serve have never had a new pair of shoes.”

“It’s the best service project we do all year. Just seeing them smile…they just light up. They just have a different energy about them. They come from a hard place, but they’re just so grateful to get shoes and a new backpack.” – Whitney Ware, USU cheerleader

“Every single kid just smiled because they’re so excited to get a new pair of shoes.” – Mason Ringle

Nearly all of the schools participating in the Mountain West tournament had a band, mascot and cheer squad present. Each one interacted with the kids, giving them a good time and people to look up to.

“This is such a great opportunity to partner with the colleges and the basketball tournament and really bring the kids to see college, maybe in a different way,” Berti said.
