Troop 794 Newsletter OCtober 2020 Edition

Important Updates and Reminders

  • Introducing the Troop Newsletter! This is the first edition of a monthly troop newsletter that the PLC has implemented to inform the troop of approaching events and document previous events. The PLC aims to release each edition on the first of each month, and it will include important updates, a schedule for the approaching month, messages from the PLC, and pictures/videos from the outings and meetings of the previous month.
  • Interested in talking about your job at Career Night? Adults, we will have a career night on Thursday, 10/15. We would like to have troop parents of all professions come in to talk to the scouts about their careers, including what a normal day at work looks like, education and experience requirements to work there, etc. If you are interested in presenting, please email the Scout in Charge, Brendan Chart (orangeslices999@gmail.com).
  • Please be present for Sign-off Night Thursday, 10/22! Merit badge counselors, we will be having a sign-off night on Thursday, 10/22 for scouts to get ranks and merit badges signed off before the cutoff date for the November COH on 10/29. If you are available and willing, please come to this meeting prepared to sign off requirements for scouts that are trying to complete the merit badges you teach. If you have any questions, please email the scouts in charge of the meeting, John Challenger (jwchall13@gmail.com) and Matthew Fall (m.fall@comcast.net).
  • Need service hours? Volunteer for Kaeden Griess Eagle Project! For his eagle scout project on 10/3, 10/10, and 10/11, Kaeden Griess will be demolishing and rebuilding a patio for Open Door Ministries. If you have any questions or would like to sign up for the project, email Kaeden as soon as possible at kaeden@griess.org.
  • Wanting to go camping or in need of conservation hours? Sign up for the Peaceful Valley Ranch Hands Campout, the last campout of 2020! On 10/23 - 10/25, our troop will be having a campout at Peaceful Valley. To give back to PV, we will be helping them with a service project. The deadline to register for this campout is 10/9, so register soon. Depending on the release date of this newsletter, Mr. Beffel may still be looking for an SIC, AIC, cooks, and church service, so if you would like to serve in any of those position, or if you have any questions email Mr. Beffel at james.beffel.bsa@gmail.com. Inspirational Message

If you sometimes get discouraged, consider this fellow. Try to figure out who it is. He dropped out of grade school and ran a country store - and went broke. It took him 15 years to pay off his bills. He took a wife and had an unhappy marriage. He ran for the House of Representatives and lost - twice. He ran for the Senate and lost - twice. He delivered a speech that became a classic, but at the time the audience was indifferent. He was attacked daily by the press and despised by half the country. Despite all this, imagine how many people all over the world have been inspired by this man: who signed his name "A. Lincoln."

Merit Badge of the Month

Dog Care Merit Badge

The Dog Care Merit Badge teaches you the essential aspects of being a responsible dog owner. Upon completion of this Merit Badge you will gain knowledge of the history of dogs, the different kinds of dogs, knowing how to take care of dogs, and why dogs are considered “Man’s best friend.”

The requirements for this merit badge are comprehensive and require a love for dogs. In order to earn this Merit Badge, you must demonstrate training and basic care of your dog, explaining the basic anatomy of dogs, and understand proper medical and emergency care for your dog from puppyhood to adulthood. You can expect to learn about the history of dogs, laws and ordinances involving dogs, and career opportunities for working with dogs. If you have a dog, this Merit Badge is perfect for you.

Message from the Editor

Scouts and Adults,

I hope you liked the troop's first ever edition of the troop newsletter. I apologize that this edition has been released late, this is our first time creating a newsletter as a PLC, so we had some kinks to smooth out. If you have any questions, concerns, or have a request for the next edition, feel free to email me at garrettrymer@icloud.com. Thanks and Stay Safe!
