Wondering the Wilds Connecting with nature

One of the major things I wish I did more back in 2018 was to explore. To see new areas, breath in fresh air, and experience new things I’ve never experienced before is a consistent and growing dream of mine. Unfortunately, exploring becomes harder to do when you have a day job. It becomes even harder when you become a homebody couch potato that doesn’t like to get out much. Not gonna lie, the biggest adventure I had over the last couple of months is watching a Harry Potter marathon while eating whatever food I had lying around my kitchen (which isn’t much...). As much fun as that is, my craving for adventure has been tugging at me, begging me to do something more with my life!

Back in college, when my schedule was a bit more flexible, I had some breathing room to explore my campus in its wonderful glory. There was time to go hiking with friends and see the world in a whole other light. One of my favorite hikes was King’s Rock in the Horsetooth Resevoir (that could be the wrong name but I am going with it). The hike itself wasn’t too challenging. It was around a 5 mile hike in total and maybe took around an hour to get to the lookout point which was breath taking!

Looking down beneath me and seeing the distance I can go with just my two feet is awe inspiring! I’ve done many hikes before, including hiking up Pikes Peak but this time around, I had time to sit down and take in the view before me. Being able to capture an outlook shot of the tiny town I saw before me and the heights I’ve climbed opened up so many doors to start looking into and it left me wanting to push further. Saying this reminds of another journey I still adore to this day named “The Incline” down in Manitou Springs.

The Incline is essentially a gigantic wooden staircase that stretches up a mile high. It’s not for the weak of heart but it is a challenge I suggest everyone take at least once in there life!

The draw of nature and what it holds is intoxicating to me. The endless rolling hills off grass in the plains to high up on the misty mountains are calling me out. There is something just so magical and spiritual about nature that makes me feel at peace. In this crazy world with deadlines and expectations, it’s nice to escape to a place where all that’s required is to be present in the moment and take in what is around you. To get lost in your own thoughts while walking through nature and seeing life happen before your eyes. I don’t know what the next expedition will be but I am looking forward to it.
