The Coker men's and women's track and field teams will be traveling back to Columbia, S.C. for the Carolina Challenge this weekend (Jan. 31 - Feb. 1). Friday's action will begin at 10:00 A.M.
At the Gamecock Opener on Jan. 18, sophomore Calene Lazare ran the second fastest 200m in Coker history with a time of 25.69, after setting a school record in December at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic by running a 7.61 in the 60m. In the 800m, freshman Destiny Ingram led the Cobras, running a time of 2:30.23.
Nyasia Weatherly excelled in the 60m with a time of 8.06, while Syriah Lottimore finished at 8.28. Asante Rice posted another great mark in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.64, and Trinity White ran a 1:01.27 in the 400m. In weight throw, Caterra Barkins totaled 10.52m, with Sierra St. John finishing at 8.98m.
"We posted some good marks at the gamecock opener," said coach pete early. "we are looking forward to building on that success at the carolina challenge."
For the men, Tony McElveen Jr. set the tone as he recorded a top-ten finish in the 60m with a time of 6.97. Davion Sebree was just a few seconds behind at 7.02. On the second day of competition, McElveen followed up by running a 22.78 in the 200m, with Antuan Crowder and Sage Lilly recording times of 22.86 and 23.00, respectively. Lilly ran well in the 400 dash, posting a time of 50.22.
In the field, the Cobras had two quality long jump finishers in Alex Berry and Dre Litsey, totaling 6.36m and 6.25m, respectively. In the high jump, Berry and Litsey each jumped a distance of 1.83m.
"The men and women have had two great weeks of training," said early. "everyone is excited about the opportunity to compete."

WOMEN:
Destiny Ingram
Ingram, a freshman from Graniteville, S.C., will look to build off her success at the Gamecock Opener this weekend at the Carolina Challenge. She led the Cobras in the 800m with a time of 2:30.23.
MEN:
Alex Berry
Berry, a junior from Latta, S.C., had a great weekend in the field at the Gamecock Opener, competing in the long jump (6.36m) and the high jump (1.83m). In the first meet of the season at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic, Berry recorded a distance of 6.50 in the long jump.
