Cultural Differences

The exchange between Derrick and Saheb ended up being full of difficult conversations that exposed cultural differences. While the exchange was a juxtaposition of values, it was a challenge that both parties conquered. Through these differences, even some similarities were found.

"Some things may be best unspoken"

Arguably the most notable part of this exchange was the back and forth that occurred over the topic of women and their role in society, homosexuality, masculinity, and more.

The small exchange above turned into a series of conversations that stemmed from that topic. This gives insight into the differences in perspectives that were brought to the table.

"Defending my existence is not a foreign concept to me. Do I have the right to explore my sexuality without being called a hateful slur or having my masculinity attacked? Do I have the right to walk down the street as a Black man without someone asking me where I’m from, looking me up and down, head to toe and back up again?"

Role Models
