Spinnaker Tower Guide

The Spinnaker Tower is a 560-foot (170 m) landmark observation tower in Portsmouth, England, UK. It is the centrepiece of the redevelopment of Portsmouth Harbour, which was supported by a National Lottery grant.

The overall thickness of the tower’s glass floor is 60mm, and it can hold a total weight of 288 stone. That means two black rhinos could cross the glass floor at the same time without it breaking.

Originally, there were three options for the architecture of the tower. Put to the public vote among residents of Portsmouth, 60 per cent voted for the Spinnaker design which reflected Portsmouth’s unique maritime heritage. The rest is history.

The spinnaker tower is a total of 14 years old being opened in 2005.
