Edgewood Elementary Purple Star Award

We are proud to announce that Edgewood Elementary School recently received the Purple Star Award from the Ohio Department of Education. The Purple Star Award is given to schools who provide support and/or special recognition to military families and veterans. Edgewood Elementary School staff provides many of these opportunities each year under the guidance and leadership of Principal Gary Croley, Assistant Principal Kyle Sigmon, and staff member Emily Tilton who has led many of the projects that helped them to be recognized for this award. There were only 95 schools in the State to receive this award and we are one of only two in Butler County. Please join us in congratulating them on this accomplishment and their continued support to our military families.

Edgewood High School Teacher Spotlight

Classroom Spotlight: Jessica Winstel is in her second year of teaching chemistry at Edgewood High School. Jessica continues to use innovative strategies to help build Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. Jessica states that having over 100 students a day can make it tough to get to know each and every student, but this year I started trying to get to know every student every single week in a quick and easy way. I use Google Forms and put the link on Google Classroom and the students have 5 minutes to complete it every Friday. I love that each of my students are able to have their own voice and share about themselves every week. A big thanks to Jessica for trying new strategies to reach our students.

Seven Mile Elementary PBIS Spotlight

To celebrate students who have been Respectful, Responsible and Safe throughout the first trimester, Seven Mile Elementary hosted a GLOW Party. Students who earned the party were treated to an hour of Glow sticks, music, dancing, and fun. Many students commented it was “the BEST day ever.” The PBIS team did a great job of decorating the gym with neon dance lights, hundreds of glow sticks and decorative signs. It was a memorable day rewarding our students for following Seven Mile Elementary's three B’s, Be respectful, Be Responsible, Be safe !

Edgewood middle school classroom spotlight

Students in Mrs. Murphy's 8th grade STEM class recently completed a project called "The Spinning Sign". In this project, students designed, built and programmed a sign to be placed outside of a business. The sign would turn on when a switch is pressed and turn off when the switch is pressed again. Teams were required to create original artwork for their sign and could enhance their project by creating the building and adding LED's.

Edgewood Elementary has added a new element to their innovative approach to supporting students' social and emotional needs. The Funtronic projector provides proactive opportunities to address student needs through several interactive activity choices that engage students in movement and cognitive challenges.

Gifted Education State Report Card Data

The AIR scores of Edgewood students who have been identified as gifted are reflected on the Ohio State Report Card each year. These students are measured in the following three areas: Performance Index, Value-Added, and if they are receiving gifted instruction as defined by the state. The areas that are labeled in green from the chart above are ones that Edgewood met the state standard. Our new gifted coordinator Cathy Chenoweth is doing a tremendous job with our students and staff in this area.
