Setting Intentions

Starrlyn Brown

Junior

For the school year, I plan on staying on top of my work, making sure I understand concepts before tests come. when it is time to focus on schoolwork, my focus will be there 100%. I would also like to exclude myself from negative things — I have decided to take a break from social media. I think that social media is a large part of the negativity in my life, so I’m going to let that go."

Chris Kub

Chemistry teacher

This year, I am trying to reduce the amount of endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA, phthalates and pesticides that end up in my food. These chemicals mess with my body's functions and could contribute to a higher likelihood of cancer and they can be obesogens, so I try to avoid them now as much as I can.”

Angelica Gonzalez

Senior

First semester senior year, I had college applications on top of school work, so I didn't really have a lot of time to take care of myself. this year, I want to make sure I'm taken care of. In terms of [Student Council], it's my last year of [Student Council] so myself as well as the other seniors want all of our events to be as good as possible — making sure to leave with a bang."

Gwenyth Williams

Sophomore

My parents work a lot, and they are busy, so I’m just trying to be more helpful, which I think plays into being grateful — you are showing your appreciation for them by helping them."

Estella Ugbebor

Eighth grader

I want to start doing more community service. I feel that that is a really important facet of my life which I don’t participate in enough or as often as I would like. I am already working with Project Save an Angel, a feeding program in the Philippines, but I want to become more of an active participant.”

Andrea Locke

Dance Teacher

I AM LOOKING TO BE PRESENT AND IN THE MOMENT AT ALL TIMES, BECAUSE I RECOGNIZE THAT TOO OFTEN I'M THINKING ABOUT WHERE I’M SUPPOSED TO BE OR WHERE I WAS. WHEN I'M IN THE PRESENT, I'M LESS STRESSED, I’M MORE CONTENT, MORE CLEAR AND I’M MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE DECISIONS I’M MAKING. EVERY NIGHT, I WRITE MY INTENTIONS DOWN, AND THE NEXT MORNING, I REMIND MYSELF OF THOSE INTENTIONS AND EVALUATE THEM AT THE END OF THE DAY TO SEE WHAT I HAVE ACHIEVED, WHAT I SHOULD BE PROUD OF AND ALSO WHAT I WANT TO CHANGE.”
