Summer Term Newsletter 2021 Ysgol Gatholig MAIR DDIHALOG

Shwmae bawb, croeso nôl/welcome back!

Welcome back to you all after what we hope was a relaxing break for you and your families. Within this newsletter there are some updates, key dates and links to great resources such as free Audible books for all.

It is wonderful to see the children's smiling faces as they come into school in the morning and lively chatter around the school, the building has become alive with their presence. Due to the lovely weather, the classes have really utilised the outdoor areas well. It is great to see the children starting to come into school in their summer uniform, please ensure the children are wearing suitable footwear (no sandals).

The summer lunchtime menu is on the link below:

ALN Survey for Parents from Pembrokeshire County Council

"Parents and carers of children with Additional learning Needs (ALN) - Do you know the way children and young people with ALN receive support is changing in Wales? We really want to hear from parents and carers about these changes here in Pembrokeshire. We know that, to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people, it is important that all partners work together - and this includes parents. Please take 10 minutes to give your views! The link below to the survey gives parents an opportunity to contribute, and to help develop how information about this support and provision for children and young people is delivered in Pembrokeshire. ‘The Additional Learning Needs and Educational Tribunal (ALNET) Act (Wales) has passed through Welsh Government and became an Act in January 2018. Starting from September 2021 the new system known as the 'ALN Transformation program' will be introduced over a 3 year transition period. Local Authorities, Schools, Further Education Institutions (FEI’s), Early Years settings, Health professionals, and others, have been working hard to get ready for these changes. There are 12 questions altogether and the survey should take you no more than 10 minutes. Your responses will be recorded anonymously."

Behaviour Goals and Virtues

As you may have seen in our school improvement plan video, which was shared on Twitter earlier in the year, behaviour and relationships are one of our school's priorities this academic year. We have introduced new Behaviour Goals that link with our Catholic Virtues so that our pupils can work towards weekly or fortnightly goals. We have started with 'Manners Matter' this week and we are overwhelmed with the improvement that we have already seen from our pupils. Please see the poster below and ask your child what we have been working on this week.

Keep in Contact

During these unprecedented times, guidance changes regularly. We will endeavour to keep you updated via our school website and Twitter accounts. It has been wonderful to see so many parents joining us on Twitter and commenting on our pages. The teachers are dedicated to keeping these pages updated and we are pleased to see they are being viewed by more and more of our families and friends.

RELIGIOUS LIFE OF THE SCHOOL

As a Catholic School in the Diocese of Menevia, we have embraced the Catholic Schools’ Pupil Profile, which teaches the children a set of eight pairs of virtues to be understood and nurtured - enabling them to grow in wholeness as fully rounded individuals in the image of God. The pairs of virtues are:

  • Grateful and generous
  • Attentive and discerning
  • Compassionate and loving
  • Faith-filled and hopeful
  • Eloquent and truthful
  • Learned and wise
  • Curious and active
  • Intentional and prophetic

They will continue to change every half-term; this half-term the virtues are ‘Compassionate & Loving’. The Department of Spiritual Life will have a part to play in the promotion of these values. This term's mission is below:

Please see the curriculum letters from each class regarding curriculum RE lesson content.

Y Senedd

This week our school Senedd departments met for the first time. The Senedd departments are as follows.

  • Department of Spiritual Life
  • Department of Welsh Language & Culture
  • Department of Communication
  • Department of Expressive Arts
  • Department of Health & Well-being
  • Department of Curriculum
  • Department of Sustainability
  • Department of Digital Competency

Each department met with their lead teacher, support staff and selected pupils. All of our Key Stage Two learners have been selected as a member of a department. The learners led the discussion and shared some fantastic ideas on ways forward. Our Senedd will allow our learners to become leaders within our school and beyond. This will give the children the opportunity to develop and apply their skills in real life contexts. They have been given authentic context for learning to speak for a variety of purposes and in front of different audiences throughout the year. The departments will be meeting regularly and this will allow our learners to share their voice and act on issues that they feel strongly about. We look forward to our Key Stage Two learners leading the way for our school. Exciting times ahead!

Please find a variety of links below that you may find useful during this time. If you would like to have support in a particular area please contact your teachers on SeeSaw and we will try to point you in the right direction.
