Artist Jan Frazier has been painting all her life, working in oils and watercolors while growing up. She has also been a potter, a spinner and weaver, paper maker, batik artist, and done some sculpting. In the 1980s, she began working in pastels, enjoying the color vibrancy of the medium.
Frazier’s art education began at the University of Kentucky, but she feels the classes she attended at the Woodstock School of Art while her family was living in New York was a turning point in her development as an artist. “For the first time,” she explains, “I found myself in a structured learning environment that was a perfect fit for me.” Frazier also credits her participation in workshops and critique groups.
"Most people call my style impressionistic."
Frazier finds inspiration in going to art exhibits and museums, taking workshops with other artists, reading Pastel Journal and Plein-Air Magazine, and going outside.
Frazier also shows her art as part of exhibits with organizations like “The Six Painted Ladies” in Kentucky. She has also had individual exhibits in Texas and occasionally sets up at her work at art fairs around the state.
