Coker Women's Basketball vs. Anderson WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PREVIEW

The Coker College women's basketball is looking to carry a follow up their win last time out against Queens on Dec. 19 as they welcome the Anderson University Trojans to Hartsville for a South Atlantic Conference tilt.

In the 87-85 win at Queens, the Cobras closed out a tight contest, in which they trailed at the half, by outscoring the Royals 41-38 in the second half. One of the keys to the win was the excellent play by Ashauntee Nelson to close out the game. Nelson put the team on her back by scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter and the final six points of the game. In total, Nelson notched a career-high of 21 points.

Hayley Kropp also had a nice game with 13 points and five rebounds, while Saquita Joyner notched 11 points and five rebounds. Erin Houser was the fourth Cobra to reach double figures as she had 10 points and six rebounds. Amanda Cherry, Hope Richardson, and Haliyah Sumter all picked up five points, while Shay Jackson and Janell Horton each recorded two points.

Player to Watch

In her first year in the Navy and Gold, local product Saquita Joyner has impressed this season and is coming off an excellent month of December. Joyner averaged 11 points per game last month, including a 21 point showing against Lincoln Memorial and 11 points in a win over Queens. For the season, Joyner is averaging 6.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

ANDERSON

The Trojans come to Coker having won their last nine contests and are currently ranked as the second best team in the southeast region according to the latest D2SIDA poll. Their record currently sits at 11-2, with the only losses coming at the hands of Clayton State and Claflin. The Trojans are also tops in the South Atlantic Conference with a 5-0 record in conference play

Anderson returns a pair of starters from last years squad in Alexy Mollenhauer and Madison Baggett, who were both preseason second team all-conference selections. Prior to the season, Anderson was picked by SAC coaches to finish third in the conference.

Player to Watch

Mollenhauer, a preseason second team all-conference selection, is averaging a double-double this season with an average of 17.1 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game. Mollenhauer is currently tied for first in the conference in rebounds per game, third in points per game, and sixth in three point shooting percentage.
