Bang for your buck: Tacos By: Elliot Kaufman '19 and Alexandra Sprouls '19

We tested three different taco restaurants in Fairfield County, each with different prices, to determine which taco was most worth it. Our three stops were Bartaco, Qdoba and Geronimo.

Chicken Tacos: $2.50 per taco.

Alex: I thought the tacos were really fresh with many ingredients which added a lot to the overall flavor. The seasoning on the chicken was also perfectly spiced.

Elliot: The tacos at Bartaco tasted very flavorful and simple, as we only got chicken and cilantro. A disadvantage to Bartaco was that there was a wait, and the size of the tacos were very small, so three or four would be needed for a fulfilling meal.

Two timer: $3.50 per taco. Pulled pork, salsa roja, shredded cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo and cotija cheese all in a crispy taco that’s wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Alex: I really enjoyed the amount of ingredients they put into each taco and especially the size of each taco, as they were much bigger than the ones at Bartaco.

Elliot: I thought these tacos had much more going on. The flavor from Bartaco came from the spices on the meat, but at Qdoba, the different ingredients made the difference. The tacos were also incredibly creative.

Baja Shrimp Taco: $5.00 per taco. Beer-battered shrimp, cabbage, guacamole, chipotle ranch, fried onion and jalapeño.

Alex: The tacos at Geronimo were definitely a step above. Although they were pricier, the tacos were loaded with Baja shrimp as well as an abundance of other fresh ingredients. With two tortillas per taco, they were sturdier and more able to hold their weight and were easier to eat.

Elliot: The taco was filled with flavor because of the fried jalapeños, onions and cilantro. Also, the shrimp was so fresh that it tasted like they just took it out of the water. The atmosphere at Geronimo seemed more elegant and natural, so that contributed to the overall experience.

Which was the most bang for its buck?

Alex: To me, Bartaco had the most bang for its buck because of the fresh quality of the ingredients and because of the tacos’ simplicity, especially for the low price.

Elliot: Because Bartaco and Qdoba were cheap and tasty, they would be great for a quick after school bite. Even though it was the most expensive, Geronimo had the most bang for its buck because the ingredients weren't overwhelming, but the flavor was incredible, and the experience at Geronimo as a whole was the best.
