Owner's Message
Winter waited to really let it all out and it sure did! A few good snow dumps and the Polar Vortex reminded us of our four season climate here in Michigan.
This is a great time to plan your Spring projects. If you book a planning consultation by March 10th, you will receive a promotional discount of $200 off of your Spring project! We here at B & B Construction look forward to helping your plans come true.
Mark Evans, Owner and Construction Specialist.
Seasonal Notes
- Check your roof regularly for ice dams. An ice dam is a ridge of ice that typically forms along the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow from draining off of the roof.
- Indoor heat rises through the ceiling, into the attic, and warms the roof (from the underside). The shingles get warm.
- Snow that has fallen on the now-heated part(s) of the roof melts. The melted snow then flows down the roof until it reaches the part of the roof that is lower than 32F (most commonly the overhangs). This water refreezes and begins to form an ice dam.
- The dam gets bigger and bigger as more snow melts and refreezes. Water now begins to pool behind the increasingly large wall of ice.
- Eventually, the water works its way through the shingles (or other roofing material) and flows through the roof decking and into the attic. From here it can seep through the ceiling, the interior walls, and into the rest of the building.
Ice dam removal is a job best done by a professional company that specialized in ice dam removal. B& B Construction has worked with the Ice Dam Removal Guys for years and they know what they are doing!
Grosse Pointe Gazebo Project
Brrr. Let's get away from that cold and look at last Summer! B & B Construction rebuilt and restored three gazebos in the Grosse Pointe park system. These gazebos are a popular place for weddings and family gatherings and they are now safe, sound, and charming.
Question of the Month
- Question: What happens to the old cabinets, countertops, fixtures, and appliances?
- Answer: You may sell them online, yard sale or donate them. However, many of our clients donate their usable items to Stardust Building Supplies. This non-profit organization resells them to assist homeowners living on a fixed income and are struggling to maintain their homes. Items can be dropped off at any of their three Valley locations or they will pick them up. Either way, you will receive a taxable donation receipt.
