I've never been to Ibiza. Neither has Steve and it has always held a kind of mystery. Denholm Elliot has a house here. It's the home of the electronic music nightclub scene. It has a beautiful coastline. An eclectic mix if ever there was one. Travelling out of season is rather special but you take your chance on the weather. That, too, is mixed. We had no wind and then 30 plus knots. All in the same week.
We planned a two week trip from Cartegena. Our friend Katie Powell gave us the heads up on some good anchorages. All we needed was the wind in the right direction. We picked our time and got lucky sailing out. A southwesterly did nicely.
The white sand and clear water is a treat. So is seeing the swathes of precious poseidon grass protected in this area. What surprised us was the beautiful rocky coastline.
Ofcourse, one of the main reasons for the trip was to try out the paddleboard. Progress report is that Steve is pretty good. I'm still rather unsteady.
The people remaining on the island for the winter have a well weathered look about them. A few groups and couples taking advantage of the out of season rates, but mostly people who look like they live here. The street musicians are largely playing for themselves. Four or five gathered together, ignoring the passers by, just jamming. And then there are the runners and dog walkers. They are out every day. All day. It's not too hot to run at midday anymore
Our outboard finally died so we were rowing to shore, which was fine when there was no wind and impossible when there was 20 plus knots. That meant the last few days were spent onboard.
Thank you for watching!
