2021 Year-to-Date Highlights Division of Student Affairs

2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium

The Cross-Cultural Center's Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium is one of the center’s signature programs and a longstanding UCI tradition. The January series featured several workshops, a virtual film screening, the annual Dr. Joseph L. White Lecture featuring artist and activist Bree Newsome Bass, and opportunities to participate in community boards.

Watch the Bree Newsome Bass keynote below.

Despite not being able to meet in person this year, the MLK Jr. Day of Service continued as an annual tradition, encouraging Anteaters to promote Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy through service to the community.

Anteater Ambassadors in Action

Anteater Ambassadors volunteered at the Bren Events Center for UCI Health vaccinations assisting with line management, checking in patients, putting on wristbands and directing and answering questions.

Wellness, Health & Counseling Services' Anteater Pledge Ambassador program aims to educate the campus community about reducing the spread of COVID-19 through evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention behaviors. #AnteaterPledge

Division-wide partnerships engaged students during spring break

Spring break brings respite from classes. Student Life & Leadership, in partnership with Campus Recreation and ASUCI, offered students plenty of opportunities to connect and unwind!

Campus Organizations & Volunteer Programs staff delivered supplies to Student Housing for the program "Sew Much Fun," which taught students how to make their own cloth face masks. Other events included workout times at the ARC, a sunset hike, cooking classes, a Bridgerton discussion and more.
FRESH Vaccine and Emergency Transportation

FRESH Basic Needs Hub continues to provide transportation support to students who face financial access barriers. Currently enrolled students who meet eligibility requirements can apply to receive a one-time Lyft voucher for up to $75.

Esports + UCI ROTC combined gameplay and military tactics for special cross-training event to promote leadership development

UCI Esports trainers and UCI Army ROTC leadership came together for a special collaborative cross-training event in early April. Commonality between gameplay and military tactics emphasizes the importance of discipline, communication strategies and leadership development.
